A few close calls

Good thing winter is coming up, I've had a few "almost" tickets:

First one a month or so ago I pulled onto the onramp (a 270 degree turn) and launched. looked in my rear view mirror and in the lane next to me, just behind me, was an ossifer. Eased off the gas and thankfully he didn't flick his lights on. Damn, can't leave the house without my coffee anymore.

Second one a few weeks ago: My bro was in town visiting and while coming home late at night we pulled onto the highway and I accelerated briskly. Lol, I just finished making a comment to my bro about the speed and up ahead in the median was a transversely parked police car. I slowed down and waited for the lights to come on but it remained pitch black. Either he was sleeping or the car was unmanned. Phew.

Today I made a left at a stoplight and did my usual build up of speed. Up ahead is a nice S-curve and I always thought that it would be a good spot for getting busted but never saw any speedtrap there. Thankfully a guy in a pickup truck going in the other direction flashed me. I wasn't going very fast but I slowed down and sure enough there was a laser speed trap. Thank you kind stranger!

I don't drive really fast but enough for a ticket that stings. Thank you to the speeding gods for keeping me safe (so far!).

No. I considered the Escort system. They can detect the V1 and will take it away and give a large fine. Laser jammers may not be detectable but if they think you're doing that they'll tear apart the car to find it...

Close calls like that can keep one alert, but perhaps it's time to consider moving south of the border? Canadian speed enforcement sounds a little draconian, eh?

I heard it was HIGHLY illegal in Canada to use radar/laser detectors. That's why they installed a kill switch under my dash for my 9500ci for those times when I venture up to Vancouver.

Wow, you're lucky you didn't end up in jail LOL. I got lucky last week while in VA of all places. I heard how bad they can be down there.

Passed by a plainclothes cop on his way home from work doing around 95 or so. lights came on and figured i'm sunk. I think you can get a day in jail for every mph over 90 down there? He was very cool. said he was on his way home. I was actually following someone else thinking they'd get nailed first. I told the cop "hey, he was going faster than I was" LOL.

Here in WA, as in the rest of Oz, speeding is taken very seriously with penalties increasing proportionally to the speed you were clocked at. Worst scenario being that they confiscate your car under the "hoon" laws that have been in effect for some time now. There are a even a few people here who made it onto the news for driving their cars way over the limit

WA is (or was!) the only State where radar detectors are legal (jammers illegal) but if you get stopped and the police know you have one then you have no chance of the officer down grading your recorded speed.

As in most countries the police here use radar and laser. Some are fixed units (e.g. red light cameras) but most are mobile units that are managed by contractors. We even have "bears in the air" that you never see until their colleagues pull you over

Enjoy you driving but be safe
