Best suspension setup
Best suspension setup
I am looking to change my suspension very soon so I was wondering again like in my "Brake Thread" if you guys can point me in the right direction as to what coilover kit to go for.
I see there are alot choices, but what is a good choice for road/track, mainly road car.

Moton seems to be the high-end choice for Porsches. I am having a Moton suspension put on my GT2 in a week or two, as soon as the shop gets it all there. It is expensive, but you don't have to go crazy with it. Just get their two-way-adjustable Club Sport suspension.
Moton's are an excellent setup but probably a little over-kill for a car that will see mostly road time and not a dedicated track setup. For the money it's hard to beat the Bilstein PSS10's. Great balance between performance for the occasional track day and everyday comfort/handling when driving around town since they are adjustable. They completely eliminate the stock 'floaty-ness' and really glue the car to the road. Happy hunting and be sure to post up pictures after you get it settled!
How does the Bilstein compare to PASM sport?
That seems to keep the car pretty grounded.
What's the difference?

The differences are not this simple but if you assume stock Normal = 1 and stock Sport = 10, I would say Bilstein Normal = 3-4 and Bilstein Sport = 7-8. In my opinion, stock Normal is far too soft and stock Sport is far too stiff. With the Bilstein's, you lower the car and change the alignment too so, overall, you end up with a more compliant and more planted ride. It's a good moderately priced upgrade to the suspension.

It all depends on how you are going to use the car and how much money you want to spend. You are going to get varying opinions because most people feel whatever they have is the "best" - and, if they did their research, it probably is best for them (but maybe not you). Keep in mind that whatever you choose will be a compromise between performance, comfort and cost.
I went with KW V3's w/ HLS kit. They should perform better than the B16's on the track and not brake the bank. If my car didn't see any track time I would go with the B16's w/PASM and call it a day.
If you haven't read this thread start here and then ask questions which everyone will be glad to answer. When you are finished, send Can a thank you note. You can't get a better foundation than this. Best,

Steamboat & slawek, thanks.
GTRNick: To repeat sparkhill: There is no "best." It depends on what you are looking for and how much $. The top available choices IMHO:
1. Bilstein Damptronic (if you want PASM), B16 (if you don't want PASM)
2. KW V3 (no PASM)
3. Bilstein modified, like TPC
4. Moton (no PASM, but who cares at this level :-))
1 is cheapest, retains PASM, designed and made and tested by same company that makes stock suspension, that uses Walter Rorhl in some consultant capacity. It is also by far the most popular choice here. This would be my recommendation.
2 also has great reputation. Actually more sophisticated than 1 because it has independent low speed compression/rebound setttings (speed refers to the speed of the shaft, not the car). This sophistication could be a plus, OR minus, depending on how good your tuner is. I wouldn't mind trying this setup at all, just because of my curiosity.
3 is a little costly. I wouldn't mind trying this either except for the cost. This system looks to me like a Bilstein with stiffer front spring and some PASM modification, with sway bar also by TPC, developed together as a system. These are people who race cars and know what they're doing.
4 Will feel amazingly sporty but too much (too stiff) for a mostly street car. Not recommended for this reason.
If you do this right, you will have the most capable daily driver in the world. IMHO: No competition, period. Good luck and have fun!
