I must be getting old

What a weekend. Decided I needed to have my PDK Turbo quieter again and had my exhaust - and a work of art Betim at BBI made me - removed on Friday. It was when my neigbour told my wife that she could hear me leaving the laneway while using her hairdryer, I decided I wasn't a kid anymore. So my first extended drive with it into the office yesterday, I proceed to tear my SpeedArt lip of the front of the car when I touched a curb entering our parking lot.

So what was my slightly modified Turbo Cab - at a not so slight investment - is now back to OEM with original exhaust and OEM lip reinstalled....but oddly enough, I sort of like it the way it is. I do still have the Sport Classic (Fuch) wheels on it though. I must be getting old.

Was the exhaust bothering you? Was there a drone? I believe the TT could use a little more sound but not obnoxious..... either way, hope you are happy.

Bought my 2007 TT in May of this year and the exhaust is still stock. Curious as the "real" reason you took it off.

Depending on your answers, I'll let you know if I think you are getting old. Of course, you could just post your age and then it will be really easy to know if you are getting old :0

It's like your kids' old toys that you put away for a while. Once you pull them out again, they play with them as if they're brand new. It could be that you just wanted a change again.

I kid, I kid...I have been experiencing some of the same feelings as far as enjoying a quieter ride and returning the front bumper back to a more stock configuration, I have had to repair the front bumper more than I care to admit.

I just don't want to admit that I am getting older (denial is everything}

Been there, done that (many times), stock is the way to go.
My 2011 tts is bone stock and a great DD, it's gonna stay that way too.
Whenever I get the bug, I can drive my 930; 2700#, ~400hp, no nannies of any kind.

Not clear, so with this turbo S, you got a BBI exhaust instead of EP1? What happened to EP1 loyality?? You had EP1 on your earlier 977.1 and you seemed to like and highly recommended that. Is this BBI much louder than the EP1?? My wife and neigbors complained too, with my EP1 in early mornings until I figured how to turn off the cold-start unnecessary extreme loudness. Now no complaint and can enjoy the EP1 exhaust turbo sound on the highway.

How do you turn off the cold-start loudness?

When the turbo starts, after 15 sec or so, just turn off and start the engine again. All that crappy loud crackling stops and the exhaust speed decreases to normal and sound becomes civil again. Can ease out of garage and cruise thru neighborhood with a low rumble exhaust not noticeable to anyone.

I see. After I start mine I try to get out of the neighborhood ASAP (at low rpms). My neighbor's master bedroom is pretty close to my garage so 30 sec of idling would probably be worse.

Turn it off immediately...works just as well. Then restart and the loud crap is over.

I think for me it's the initial crank and start. The revs jump a couple thousand right on startup and it is really loud. Calms down shortly after that to a loud, but more acceptable level. I picture my neightbors jumping half-way out of bed right when I start the car. So far, no complaints from them but maybe they're just trying to be good neighbors...unlike me

^^ Guys to be honest just go buy yourselves a tune if the coldstart is causing you unwanted noise issues and be done with it! The tunes don't have the coldstart function so the engine just fires up as a hot start...ie no loud and crackly. So no need screwing about switching engines on and off etc. (hope you're listening johnw). You will also enjoy the additional power and drivability of the car (you can thank me later).....but realistically you do need a clutch to go with it though. Frankly i quite like the loud and crackly so my tuner did me a separate tune file with it so i can choose between tune files. Admittedly the loud and crackly isn't as loud and crackly as it used to be unless i use the stock file which doesn't get much use these days.

Edit: To OP. if you really put the stock system back on then all i can say is that AM system must have been one hell of a droning obnoxiously noisy ****. It'd be a very sad day for anyone to have to resort to putting that terrible vacuum cleaner sounding stock system back on and then say "it's more enjoyable". That to me tells me straight away that AM system you had on was never any good regardless of how its construction may have looked, or how much you paid for it. No offence intended...Just my .05 of a US cent. Maybe buy that EP1 that should have done in the first place . Hindsight is a wonderful thing .
