997 TT tiptronic gearbox problem :( help!

hey guys..

Ive had a problem with my TT for a little while now..the front end sounds like its gonna fall apart everytime I full lock the steering either side..

I hear a knocking sound and it feels like the wheels are not going round the same way/time..

Ive given my car to a garage and Ive been told this...

'A part (box) on the gearbox that controls how much power is divided up between the front and rear axle has gone...
Cannot be bought seperatly from porsche so maybe needs a new gearbox!'

I dont know what this part is called that has 'gone' but im told its a sealed unit and porsche cannot supply single parts for it anyway..

Ive done a lot of searching on the forum but havent seemed to find any problems relating to this...

Any ideas...?

Are you sure it's not an alignment issue? I had the same thing on my 997 TT. When I turned the wheels all the way to the right or left it was making knocking sounds plus some vibrations.. I had the wheels and suspension realigned and no more noise/ vibrations.

When you full lock your car left or right when moving does it sound like the tyres are slipping and makes the car judder until you straighten up?

It's the cold weather making the tyres slip on full lock at low speeds.

If so its just a combination of cold weather and large wheels and tyres!

I have the same problem in cold weather in my porsche with 19"!

When the weather warms up it goes!<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

That's what the Porsche garage told me (ferndown Dorset) but I've given the car to another German specialist and they are certain that it's more than this(gearbox)

It was the front diff and he changed it with a salvage part and sold the car a few months later!!

Probably the wrong wheels/tyres which caused the damage.
