I have a question and don't want to start a new thread. Please let me know if this is too OT, but has anyone with a manual transmission experienced clutch slipping after a tune only? I installed a Switzer tune and my clutch has 4k miles on it and it started slipping in 3rd and 4th immediately.

It can happen on a stock clutch with a tune.

I would reccommend changing it once a tune has been done or atleast expect it to start slipping sooner rather than later.

I mean mine used to slip under load in 5th or 6th gear once in a while. When I changed the clutch the stock plate was fine but it just didn't have the clamping force it needed for the high torque level.

Me, no...but a friend of mine is very pleased with their work. Reportedly some big German houses use their services. And on this forum should be one very fast customer of theirs.

Yep. Mine was the same. Tune went in, clutch slipped in 3rd during wot pretty well straight away. Car had done only @ 4 to 5,000 kms from brand spanking new so it couldn't be said the clutch was old or worn out. Sure it was cold weather at that time...so the charge was very dense....strong boost delivery etc. The car sure did feel electric, but boy hit 3000 and you had to think about releasing off some of that power or risk frying up the flywheel, clutch etc. So to put a tune in and not get slip? Well my take on that is simple: 1) your tune isn't producing as good a torque level as you may think, or 2) you simply aren't giving it the full beans through 2nd and third gears or 3) the weather is so damn hot the ecu is pulling power out or 4) your fuel is dud or, 5) all of the above. Sure I've heard all sorts of stories here on 6 and continue to keep hearing stories how the clutch should cope fine with a tune (should be) for a while so long as the stock clutch is in good shape. But imo thats just BS talk to get you to part with your money on a tune first when you should really be parting with your money on the clutch first. Experiencing what i have with my own car, and knowing what i know now about the maximum clamping pressure of the stock pressure plate (and even the 752 sachs for that matter) i don't buy that story for one second. Yep sure I should've checked the facts first so i can only blame myself for my error of judgement and lack of due diligence. Anyway (for me now) it's this simple. If you are thinking about getting a tune and, honestly want to get the best out of your tune once it's flashed in, then do yourself a bog favour and get a decent clutch in your car first or get used to taming the throttle all the time during wot shifting. Bottom line is it'll cost you at one point except for at that stage your flywheel won't be in as good shape and may need replacing as well. Just my .05 of a cents worth .

Thanks for the input. I'm back to the stock tune until I buy the upgraded clutch. The car was insane with the tune but the slipping was annoying.

DaBrat is infamous around these parts
I too have an FVD tune and am pleased with it. The throttle response is much quicker than stock. What exactly is it that I should be aware of with the FVD tune?

This is my thought?

Maybe they dont state 600bhp?

Thing I dont mind being proven otherwise!

This is what the forums are for at the end of the day to share valuable info to help each other, not to say my one is better than yours!

Because of the roads I use my car on, HP to me is not as important as handling, power to weight ratio and the overall balance of the car. The reason I got a tune is to improve throttle response and to get the turbos to spool quicker. Mid to top end power is less important to me simply because the 997TT already has way too much power for my practical use. Nothing against the other tunes which I have heard good things about, but the reason I chose FVD is simply because the garage I use and I am close with does FVD. My belief was that support was more important than the HP gain (to me). When I searched online and on 6Speed, it didn't seem like there were any problems with FVD, but with what I heard on this thread, seems there is a problem, so I'm concerned and interested to find out what it is. If it's simply HP, I'm cool.

DaBrat....you're on to something and IMO this doesn't come up enough.

IMO a product without the service to back it up doesn't meet my needs/expectations. You're working with a garage you trust and whom likely stands behind what they install.
