Up until today (reading this very thread) I was convinced that the GT2 was just not the right car (for me). I have not driven the 997 GT2, but I have driven the 996 GT2 (along with 996-7Turbo's). I calculated the deviation experience from the 996turbo->GT2, and applied that to what I knew about the 997Turbo and estimated that I would not enjoy the 997GT2. The 996GT2 scared the crap out of me. I did not feel planted at all, much less confident for daily driving. It was definitely more car than I was capable of handling.

But now I'm hearing quite the opposite (based on the OP's testimony about his perception of the car when compared to the Turbo). I thoroughly enjoyed the 997Turbo. And to think that this car is better in any way is hard to comprehend.

Thanks for the great information here, and be sure to keep us updated on your experiences.
I had good seat time in a 996 GT2 a few years back and in my humble opinion you are spot on with the visceral feeling of it, especially at speed. Chest hair grows really quick, especially if you are accelerating on any kind of an incline, which further moves weight off the front wheels. I drove one that had EVOMS flash, and a few other tweaks, and while it was definitely quick and handled well at lower speeds, once it cracked the 100mph mark the car simply was a little too unstable for my taste.

I also share Dr. Sullivan's thoughts about the GT2 vs Turbo. Turbo is still a very, very good car - but it is a compromised car. It's supposed to be more relaxed, more everyday. The GT2 is much more purposeful in everything it does.

Not to hijack this thread - but I am also going to have my GT2 dyno'd in the next couple of months. I also have had some issues with my car as of late but we seem to be working them out. I definitely need a set of intercoolers and more than likely a better pressure plate. I'm finishing up somethings on my GTR and once that is done the GT2 is going in. It would be nice to compare dyno #s, although the shop I use has a dyno that is known around here as "the heartbreaker"

I'd love to see what ut produces, based on your mods (flash, BOV's, headers - did I miss anything?). Really curious as I have just the flash and BOV's which is supposed to be 600 chp. Would like to know the difference in output of yours and mine and if so, attributed to what? Thanks!
I visit her last night during visiting hours. Todd is dynoing the GT2 and Robert is doing the alignment today. Last time it was flashed it made 592 whp. The GT2 has flash, ICs, IC hoses, headers, and cats.

Just an update on the 6 week saga. The GT2 is back and I've put 150 miles on her since Tuesday. This experience (a used car requiring mecanical work to get it running properly) would have been much worse had it not been for Robert and Todd at Evolution Motorsports and Alex at Fabspeed. New headers, tune, and alignment done!!! Specifics about the problems are now moot. Now that the car is near perfect (albeit bad tires that car came with the car - lesson is to listen and what Robert says (Nittos were a bad choice for this car)) a word from UNWISE: research your used car before purchase. Information is key!!! The stereo repairs were finalized today and I tell you I still can't hear $21K worth of sound (46 years and I guess my ear aren't what they use to be). I'll post some pics soon (wheels are still chromed and I do plan to change them).

iPhone pics of the GT2 washed and the carbon fiber air box after some Chemical Guys Black Hole applied.

New GT2RS shift **** from Sun Coast really adds to the red and black interior.

What a car !! I am interested in getting your story on the sound system that is not performing as expected. Care to tell us what that install looks like and what you perceived to be the issue or why it does not pass muster?? Thanks !!

The issue with the stereo was a faulty Garmin navigation board in the Kenwood head unit. This was repaired by Kenwood. The previous owner of the GT2 had this stereo installed and cost him $21,000. The front speakers are Focal No.7 and the rears are Focal No.5. The two subs are Focal 27V2 and are covered in black leather with red stitching. The two amps are STEG K2.04.2 and K4.02.4. While it sounds much better than the OEM Bose I can not tell it sounds $21k better. I have lost PCM controls of things like the auto locking of doors and all other personal settings that could be adjusted. The stereo was a nice perk, but definitely not a sale maker. I've included some pics of the head unit that can change its tilt angle, the subs, crossovers, and amps.

Very impressive. That should really bring the house down :-) Now I can tell you that the Porsche greenhouse is not very conducive for good stereo sound and that the standard Bose system is trying to make the best of that through a good tailoring of frequencies. Typically I am finding that the current systems have too much of a treble versus bass character and that the mid range (where most of the voice and instruments are located in the sound spectrum ) seems to be pretty subdued. I also find that again the crossovers etc are not really well suited for a general 150Hz to about 3500 Hz - straight - punching sound. Just my 2 cents. I am thinking less is more in terms of amps / cross overs and all sound and frequency filters that people seem to want to introduce nowadays. Just my opinion of course.

I want to see that beauty with the wheels refinished! That's the only thing holding it back from perfection at this point. What a gorgeous GT2!

Thanks! The 360 Spider was a whim that I am happy I did not follow through on. The biggest thing that steered me away from the 360 was operating cost as this was to be a daily driver. The GT2 with its performance, rarity, Porsche reliability, and good looks was truly a better car for me.
