2013 Nissan GT-R Black Edition vs. 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S Comparison
For the "curb appeal" effect the GT-r is insane, people are nuts and chase this car down to see it constantly. The Turbo S flies under the radar because most people have no clue it's twice as much as the GT-r.
I'm not sure if I'm making sense at all but they are just two totally different cars.

Gotta love them both. Most GTR owners find they get kinda bored with the car, wanting to switch to that manual trans Porsche has to offer; but each hold their ground.

Just went through this myself albeit on a used basis. Had $75K budgeted after selling my E92M3. Considered the following slightly used cars: GT-R, 997 Turbo and CLKAMG63 Black. While I totally respect the GT-R and it's mind blowing performance and think from certain angles it is a cool design, I went with a an '07 997 Turbo for the following -- manual transmission, better build quality all around (paint, interior bits, etc.), near bulletproof Mezger engine, more comfortable ride and most important to me...I find it to be a sexier car. YMMV.

I did the same!
I was in a similar boat when looking at vehicles. I was fortunate enough to be able to drive a GT-R at a lapping day and a 997tt for a regular test drive. I was honestly worried that I would be so impressed with the GTR that I would be able to get beyond the lack of a manual transmission. While it was an absolute beast on track, it just didn't have the same fun factor for me. If it were offered in a manual transmission, it would have given the 997 a lot more competition. As soon as I make my living as a driver, then I will go with the best possible tech ala pdk etc. Until then, I will just enjoy rowing through the gears. There has been a good amount of content in this thread along with some of the usual garbage. I'm glad the comparo was done, even if it was clearly a less than perfect test.
My bud has an all stock M6. He drove my ~600HP 99TT and told me that my tt has way more gunt down low. I finally got a chance to drive the M6 for a bit. The M6 shines in top gear with lots of road. Its in this situation where the car makes sense...
However, it really nver *felt* fast at normal speeds (0-130), as it shouldn't. Its monster V10 is an rpm NA maven. It starts to wake up where our motors start thrown range Is (lol)
From a handling perspective, the M6 is a wallowing piggy. Its not bad, just no M3 or 911.
i think the m6 is a great GT/conv.

Here is my two cents:
I think Porsche is great. However, the Turbos and GT models are too expensive. I understand they are highend cars, but the prices are getting crazy expensive. At their going prices, these cars should beat the GTR in EVERY statistical category. Sure they have a better build quality than GT-R, but is it really $70,000-$100,000 better. IMO, No way.
As for the GT-R. I respect everything the car can do. I would absolutely buy one but I am not a fan of the exterior design. I am waiting for a sleek new redesign. If they make one that looks less tall and maybe a bit wider, I''d be a customer. A traditional manal would be nice too.
In summary, if I had to buy one, I'd buy the GT-R. If money grew in my back yard, I'd take the Porsche.

SO HILARIOUS!

I'd hate to go against the grain of your made up statistics.
*edit: then what do the people who purchased a Turbo S do?

But let's not pretend that more than 10% of all cars sold are single clutch manuals... Look up Porsche's own statistics and see what percentage of 911's are single clutch manual.
Maybe... But - it would have been substantially slower, and not the 'anybody, anywhere' kind of car it has turned out to be.

I agree with you. The old three pedal manual is certainly outgunned by the technology offered in a host of different brands. I simply enjoy the traditional manual transmission more to drive. If Nissan made the GTR available as such, it would have been awfully difficult to justify the additional money for a 997tt. They are both fantastic cars. After driving a Turbo S, GTR, etc, I realized that I just have no desire to own a sports car that isn't a 3 pedal, fully acknowledging that I am giving up some considerable performance capabilities.
