Need some advice, 997.1 Turbo or 2012 Nissan GTR
I will add Ive had some terrible service at two OC Porsche dealers, and I mean ridiculous 'Im never come back to this place' stuff. Luck of the draw and at times very relationship based no matter what car you own...food for thought.
I will add that my local Porsche dealer was the same as the one you've described, but over time, it was bought out, and new management has turned that place around - someplace I wouldn't mind trying again.
I was greeted by a zit faced 20 something. The key point was that although they had "sold" the car to someone else, they were willing to sell the car to me anyway! The guy was knowledgable about the car, but it was hardly special treatment. Now this could have been different because it was a used car instead of a new one. I'm still a bit interested. You really don't know a car until you drive it. I drove a turbo and was very impressed. Much more fun than my M3.

Another issue is the target demographic. Some people who want one, have already played one on Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsports, etc... It is definitely targeted to a younger audience (perhaps one that can't afford one, or not old enough to have a driver's license, yet). Some older people don't even know what it is (still running into people thinking that it is a Challenger, new Chrysler 300, 350Z with a 'kit', Bugatti (that was a lovely conversation), Porsche (GA State Trooper), Maserati (not making this up), etc...). You bring one by a high school, and everybody knows.
So the deal about test drives has its merits...
However, also, because it is used, and there was a 'deposit' on the vehicle... It is a possibility that the buyer was backing out for whatever reason (second thoughts, found one cheaper, etc...), or the dealer had access to another one and didn't want to lead that on (making it more special, etc...). Could be a lot of reasons.
I hate dealerships. Another reason why I like the GT-R, no options. Just choose your year and go.
Volkswagen has always had a close relationship with Poschaa, founded in 1931 by Ferdinand, the original Volkswagen designer and Volkswagen company founder!

Just stating the facts.
But I still love Nissan. I owned a very powerful Z32 years ago with 700whp. One of the sexiest cars I've owned and regret letting it go. TBH I think it was a bit over engineered for a 90's car (albeit the pioneer) which eventually killed many of the Japanese sports car craze.

Me? I buy cars I'm passionate about. Don't really care which badge they wear.
I've been reading this thread for quite some time now cause I'm also seriously ready to pull the trigger on either the 997.1 or GTR. I have no preference for name brands and I wanna analyze each car to make the right decision. For $75,000 I can have an '07 TT or '11 GTR. The Porsche may look slightly better but is it me or do 911 Turbos just not garner the attention they deserve? I have a problem with driving a $130,000 car that doesn't even get second looks cause they're everywhere I suppose. On the other hand I realize that every ricer who can get a GTR in the coming years will own one and I'd be pissed. Awile back I was at Turbo Performance Center in Maryland and there were $150,000 Porsches there for mods but they were all passed by onlookers to view the owners new GTR. The GTR may not be the best looking or lightweight but it is a bonafide supercar. I live in the inner city and the 911 gets no consideration when I ask my fellow car guys 911 or GTR. Most say the 911's look boring and dated. Will it be the newer eye catching GTR with all of its technological advances and its pump gas peformance upside over the 911 and its ability to make me drive like Andretti or the venerable 911 TT with its classic looks, bulletproof motor and better gas mileage? My dad says to me "Son, ***** doesn't know GTR... get the Porsche." LOL

I get more positive attention in my GTR from women and men (young and old) than I have ever gotten in any of my Porsches. So, if attention is what you're looking for, the GTR gets it. As far as GTR affordability, the '09s with high miles are starting to drop into the $50s, but I suspect they still won't be affordable to the demographic you are worried about ("ricers") until after the new body style is released in 2015/2016 (kind of like what happened with the 996TT). So, you'll be safe.
All that said, I'm not trying to sway you one way or the other. I own both cars because I think both cars are awesome. Each one has advantages over the other. I was simply correcting some misinformation about the GTR that has been posted in this thread. Regardless of which car you choose, you will be extremely happy. Good luck!
