Amit Likhyani is infamous around these parts
OEM short shifter kit

Is there any downside to this mod? I heard from a shop whose opinion I do value that said mod increases wear on the synchros and thus he doesn't recommend it. Can anyone confirm this?

Absolutely not it's one of the best mods for your money. Porsche would not offer this option if there was potential for damage. You will find that it is actually more difficult to miss shifts.

Highest recommendation - without reservation. This mod is not done or mentioned enough. Heavier, but much more "precise." I was skeptical at first but once it's installed, I could not believe how much I've enjoyed it.

twturbo, does GT2/GT3 kit fits without any problem? Very interesting info.

I have had the GT3 short shifter kit for some time. Made a big difference in the throw and was not as expensive. Got it from Suncoast.

A must have option... In fact, the SSK should come standard from the factory for all 997.1TT or 997.2TT.

Installed the OEM SSK in my car a year ago, love it.

I was appauled to see how the shifter linkage is designed. It is terrible.

Someday I'm going to upgrade to the Cup car shifter cables as I'd like to remove a the last bit of "slop" in my shifter especially under hard braking.

OEM SSK is a must do. period.

In fact porsche should make SSK mean standard shifter kit, with the other option being the LSK long shifter kit!

Where can I buy that OEM short shifter kit? At a Porsche dealer I guess and how much they go for?

It is a DIY?

Suncoast is the cheapest or check with your local dealer as they sometimes have coupons for tequipment accessories. It is a DIY if your handy. I actually did the install with my dealer make sure you don't mix up your screws during disassembly

I don't think there's a "GT3" SSK - here's what Suncoast says:
Short Shift Kit from Porsche

For fast, sporty gear shifting: the factory short shift kit reduces shift paths by up to 35% (9X6) and by up to 20% (9X7, 2005+). That means more precise shifting thanks to perfect shift guidance and a sportier driving experience. Compatible with any factory shift ****.

Thanks Clay/twturbo for the interesting info. 6 years on this forum and am still learning; wish I had known this back when I installed mine though.

Clay, did the people at Suncoast confirmed that the stock GT3 Shifter is indeed different or shorter than the Turbo's SSK?
Same question for twturbo, your tuner confirmed this to be correct?

jh, I believe what Clay/twturbo are talking about is using the "regular/stock" GT3 Shifter, versus the Turbo SSK.

^ Can I think you are right.

According to the folks on rennlist (and also confirmed on the PET catalog) all 997s and 997.2s that have factory IXCZ SSK use part number 997 424 983 00. The SSK was an option for the GT3, however, the GT3 itself had a unique part number.

997 GT3s used 997 424 010 00, 997.2 GT3s had an upgraded unit: 997 424 010 91.
