Agreed ! Super mod and so easy !
My steering wheel started life as a PDK one but I removed the paddles.
You can buy one without paddles new from Porsche but that is soo expensive I preferred to buy a cheap used one and just remove them.

Was it a direct swap (plug and play)??

If you currently have a MF steering wheel (triangle airbag) it is plug and play.
If you have the sport steering wheel (round airbag) you have to activate the MF setting through PIWIS, your dealer can do that in about 2 minutes. My dealer did it free of charge.

Are you saying a multifunction 997.1 wheel is plug and play with a 997.2 multifunction?

Exactly!

We suggest going with the TechArt Steering wheels. They are cost effective and come with a variety of options/finishes. You could also do a Paddle Retrofit on the PDK Multifunction wheel if you would like...

Most of the standard color TechArt Steering Wheels we try to keep in stock, any type of custom finish/stitch/carbon/etc is about 2 weeks away... Give us a call! 888-920-1766

when you switch from 997.1 wheel to 997.2 wheel the operation is not plug and play, even for manual cars...horn cables need rerouting inside the new wheel...Otherwise horn wont stop at all...If now we speak about tiptronic cars there are two ways to install pdk wheel to a tiptronic car...First is to buy steering column switch from a 997.2 and program some units of the car and second is to to open new wheel and change internal circuits to make it run like a tiptronic car...Second way will "fake" steering column switch and would think the car has still a tiptronic wheel...I did second way once and it took me almost three days to make it operate properly...so from now on only with along with steering column switch from 997.2 car...

No, that is not what I said. We were talking about a 2nd generation Sport steering wheel without MF.

I don't think the 997.1 is that bad. Here it is with my Techart wheel:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder they say and it's true.
I find these 997-1's not very beautiful, won't say they're ugly but still very happy mine is out.

And is I said, contrary to what some believe, the sport wheel II is an easy swap on a manual car.

I've seen a few pics of DCT/macarbon work and it's impressive however I still think the triangular shaped airbag looks like ****. What what would you do? Please post some pics if you can. One note, I do want to retain the controls on the wheel.
Tom,

I wasn't a fan of the carbon wheel either. I'm not into the push buttons and the carbon on the wheel makes my hands sweat. I had this wheel put on my car before I took delivery... Paddles and alcantara. It's a factory Porsche wheel. I got mine from Suncoast. They might have 1 in stock normally and if not the order from Germany is a few weeks. I like it alot.
