proper way to approach this is to figure out what he is asking for a straight out purchase, and then separately figure out what you can sell your car for independently. KBB.com and edmunds.com are a good place to start as well as doing a few searches on cars.com and autotrader.com

Once you've got those figures in hand then you can begin to negotiate.

for example KBB says you should be paying about $90K for this car and your trade in is worth $67K or $70K for a private sale (made some estimates on your car, eg 5000 miles and good options)

In any case looks like you have room to talk him down since he's asking for $29K in addition to the trade in, but based on my quick analysis you can probably get him closer to $23K

this is obviously my quick and dirty math so please do your own homework but I hope it helps a bit

This is slightly bit more, but consider selling the C2S yourself and get this one:

All the right options plus!!!

IMO...it is high. Does have the desired options and low miles but you can negotiate a better deal. I have always approached these type of deals by getting to my comfort zone with a straight purchase first. Otherwise you fall into the game that you are in now. They offer more for your trade but don't drop the purchase price or vise versa. For that price you can get an '09 with the updated PCM. Good luck

I agree straight purchase is the best, but having a hard time selling my car and with the tax benefit to trade I am near a wash on trade vs. selling myself.
On paper this seems like a reasonable deal for the current mkt., but I am not comfortable at 29k, maybe 23-24k. At 29k they are selling to me for 94k/65k for my car. Tough thing is 08-09 Turbos are tight out there. Low mileage CPO's even tighter.

Sounds high to me...i bought an 09 turbo cab last month for $97k. Original warranty till 4/30/13, then two years cpo after. $148500 list. Car had exceptionally clean DME report, one owner, 10,000 miles and bought/sold from same dealer i purchased from. Had to pay $900 for closed shipping since i purchased out of state, though.

Be patient...i looked for a year. There are deals to be had.

How does NY handle the sales tax? I know TX you only pay sales tax on the difference. That can save you some money too. So, if you do a private sale on your car then you would have to pay full sales tax on the turbo.
