What suspension are you guys running??

I have a 08 TT with 10K miles and sits way to high and a bit rough for my taste. Also I feel the handling is the weaker point in these cars in terms of performance.
What set-up are you guys running? Is it necessary to change the shocks/struts?

Thanks in advance!

There are plenty of shops that "install" stuff, much fewer that really know what they're doing, or actually race these cars. Most cars are slammed way too low and just going for the Blvd. cruiser look.

agreed the stock setup is terrible. Im very happy with the GMG springs and sways and the RSS bits made a massive improvement as well.

what are your goals? sounds like you want to improve looks by lowering, but also make it 'softer'? Typically when going with a more aggressive stance, it results in more aggressive ride/handling.

Agree with the above, there's more of an art to suspension setup than people would guess. You need a very experienced installer with a good track record. They could help talk you through options based on your goals.

I'm a huge fan of the setup put on my car, but it's definitely more firm than stock (which was the goal)

Soon to be a PSS10 owner, and will let you know!

I will have Cargraphic lowering springs for sale soon too! :-)
They lower nice about 1" all around.
Love how it rides too compare to stock PASM or Normal.

I would go with ether the PSS10's or KW's. There are plenty of threads on each, just take your time and choose the one that's going to fit your style.

A lot of this depends on how you use your car. Do you plan to go to the track often, or just once in a while, or never? Do you daily drive the car in SF? How comfortable are you with the current ride quality?

Personally, I think if you daily drive the car (especially on SF roads), a simple set of lowering springs are your best option. Inexpensive, lower, and slightly firmer ride. If it's strictly a weekend/track car, then coilovers might be something you want to consider. There's a lot of factors which will determine what's best for you. Too many people are quick to say "KW's" or "PSS10's"....when in reality, that might not be the best choice for you.

Given your location, I would give a call to Alex @ Sharkwerks and talk to him about what you're looking to get out of the car. He won't steer you wrong.

I am using Bilstein Damptronic. Regarding choice, as many here have said, it depends on what you are looking for, the top 3 considerations being: a. do you want to stiffen the ride to improve handling, b. how much do you want to spend, c. do you need flexibility of ride height lowering, and d. will you track this car. To be specific:

1. If you want to lower the car, and keep the ride comfort the same as stock, strictly a street car: H&R lowering springs.

2. If you want to lower the car, and improve handling by making the ride stiffer: GMG or Techart Lowering Springs. Note that all lowering springs lower the car by a fixed 1 inch, this might be too much for challenged driveways, etc. You can't adjust the height with lowering springs.

3. If you want to spend a little more, and have some flexibility in height adjustability, and flexibility in spring rates (you could change to stiffer springs - this is an advantage of coilover for those who want to track the car), then you might want to consider coilover: Bilstein or KW would be my top 2 choices, with Bilstein being the more street friendly and KW stiffer, more track oriented.

FWIW, by far, the most popular coilover for enthusiasts on this forum is the Bilstein B16 Damptronic, partly because of the very reasonable cost (economy of scale as this is a huge company), partly because it is made by the same company that makes all Porsche 911 OEM coilovers, and mainly because it transforms the Turbo from a soft, mushy car with "lazy handling" into one of the best daily drivers ever made. The Bilstein strikes an ideal compromise between ride and handling that turns the Turbo into the epitome of what a world class daily driver should be IMHO: small, perfect seating, perfect outside view, furiously fast, tight and precise. There are also various variations, all based on the Damptronic, and all excellent: TPC, Techart, H&R, etc. There is also a version that doesn't use PASM if that's the direction you want to take, called the Billstein B16 PSS10, although I don't recommend it.
I detailed the many considerations of suspension mod in the Bilstein link in my signature that you might want to look at. While nothing is ever perfect, the Bilstain Damptronic has been in my car for 4 years without any problem, knock on wood and I truly love every moment that I am driving my Turbo. Good luck and have fun and I too would recommend Sharkwerks to do the suspension work on your car - no rookie should touch the car.

Hi HK,

I was disapointed too by the stock handling, my rate: 11/20
-Did good alignements (see Cannga's thread): far better handling but still softer, 13/20
-Bolted Techart springs: far better looking but only little better handling, 14/20
-Bolted H&R sways, actually setted soft front, mid rear: far better handling, 16/20, will try stiffest soon.

For now it is Ok for me, my rates engage only myself and I 'm sure coilovers are another level...

(I run 80% "fast road", 20%track)

My 20 cents...

I'm running Bilsteins as well(damptronic) along with HR sways front/rear. I'm very happy with the ride, in fact sometimes I wish they were stiffer. There is a lot of good input already in this thread, read Can's "handle like a GT3" thread you'll have most of you concerns and questions adressed.

As most have already mentioned your decision will be made around the use of your car. Street/track etc etc.

Damptronics - probably best mod I did for the car. I hated the stock suspension. It's truly lacking for a car of this caliber.

RSS in Coasta Mesa has very nice packages. I have the Stage 2 RSS Tarmac setup and it transformed my car without sacrificing ride comfort, not that the GT2 is comfortable in stock form anyway. Now it is literally a GO-KART. They manufacture their own products and install on site. They can also ship the products to a installer of your choice.

Do they have a fitment for the 997 turbo as well? (sent you an email)

Last I checked, they only had a fitment for the 997 2WD naturally aspirated cars, no GT3/GT3-RS/GT2/Turbo fitment.
