How much of a hit will 997tt's have when the 991tt comes out
How much will it cost then? A Turbo S can easily sticker at $175k with options. There is no doubt a 991 Turbo with options will hit a figure with a 2 handle. Of course it could be optioned cheaper, though.
It is silly to think that the prior model will do better when the new model is out, but older models are simply impacted less due to the greater price differential. Unless there is a radical restyling that really leaves the old model looking dated. In the case of the 911, the new models look dated, so it's not an issue!

Without any interior leather/carbon/alcantara additions my spec would be 151500 (buckets, manual, LSD, etc).
Turbo S with same options would be 166000.
Will be interesting to see how much 991T will cost, but unless you select the whole catalogue it will not be 200 grand.
sort of off topic, I have a 996tt right now and love it so much, even after all this time I still just go and stare at it for no reason.
I really want to move to a 996 GT2 but it's hard to justify when you can get a 997.1tt for same or less money. I feel like the 997.1tt will keep dropping but the 996 gt2s aren't going to go any lower. With that in mind should I just go for a 997.1tt or will I regret not getting a the gt2?

If you like the exterior and interior of 996, then I'd say go for GT2, set up the suspension really well and enjoy the RWD Porsche 911!
I do not regret getting 997TT, but I do look at (and sigh) 997 GT2 every day. If you buy a car, imho, go to the top of the line, for turboed 911s GT2 is top of the line.
I'm curious, what everyone thinks the impact on 997 TT depreciation will be once the new 991 turbo is out? I suspect the new turbo will be a great car and the new factor will drive more buyers in that direction from the 997 TT. The reason I ask is I want a 997 TT and I look multiple times per week at what's on eBay and autotrader, but I keep saying to myself wait, because I think the price will take a little larger drop over the next twelve months. Any knowledge from past history? Will the value possibly remain stable if the new 991 turbo is so highly priced that it makes the used 997 turbos more attractive?
Instead, 3 key factors:
Desirable options: Adaptive Sport Seat, PCCB (remember this is a $10k option and worth every penny), LSD
Low mileage
Not too much modding other than wheel and exhaust.
If you have adequate funding and see a car with the above parameters, I would jump on it *immediately* if asking price is reasonable. The Mezger Turbo is a long term keeper and IMHO your overall happiness will depend much more on getting the car that you like, rather than the $ you save by waiting, especially because I will guarantee you that it is not going to be a 5-10% drop overnight, more likely a continuous slide. Hope this thread will help a little: Buying Guide
for a Used 997 Mezger Turbo. Good luck and have fun in your search; make sure to check dealers too as ebay's items have too much exposure and competition; if there is a good buy the price will reflect it (too high).

My personal opinion... If people would not be able to LEASE these cars, Porsche would close it's doors. A 991 Turbo with some options running at $200K , for an off the shelf - production car, albeit with a great pedigree etc. is just no longer realistic. This is super car territory and Porsche is gearing up to become a mass-producer of cars. To cannga post, I do think that the Mezger engine has the cachet and will become a classic, especially with the 6-speed. At last I hope it does, not because I happen to have one but just as with Rolex, the old movement is what brings the money!!.
I think that the 997.1TT is a special car and will continue to be a special car in the Porsche enthusiast market. The fact that there was an engine change in 10' and the last Mezger in 09 makes it even more likely. Will a regular dealer recognize this, not necessarily. However, I believe it will be highly regarded amongst Porsche enthusiasts and collectors.
The newer cars are definitely nicer, smoother, have tons of gadgets. However, these vehicles are built to serve an all around purpose. Vehicles are no longer built to be special. In the future cars like the 997.1 Turbo and N/A M3's will be worth money for their unique engineering.
Lastly, the 996 suffers its faith because of those headlights. I considered buying a 996 GT3 at one point but could not get past the headlights. I think this puts the 997 in a more favorable position as well because of the return of the round headlights.
Just my two cents'.

FYI - There are 101 used 997.1 TT's on the PCNA site as of today.
There is a yellow one listed with PCCB's, and 'Axle-Differential Lock Rear' options but no Adaptive seats (sorry Cannga) with 45K miles for $70K. It looks sweet...

So what's wrong with the 991T engine?
Do we already know it's bad, even though it hasn't been released yet?
I mean, to me, it's like saying, "The C6Z06 has a better engine than the C7 coming out next year." How do we know?

No problem I already have a Turbo. But this illustrates what I meant: finding a car that meets all the conditions you want could be quite difficult. Like this one with PCCB and LSD is excellent, but the yellow color I wouldn't want at all (just personal preference, yellow cars can be beautiful, particularly when blacked out), and the lack of Adaptive Sports Seat is very unfortunate. Therefore, IMHO, if you see a low mileage one with "correct" options, jump on it! Do not wait for the price to drop, you may not come across a similar car again.

My dealer has a blk/blk 08 , 3k miles, no adaptives 103k
It's already had many offers, I think there is an offer of 90 now.
The hunt is the fun part, avoid the heavily modded (susp, exh, ecu, etc) frankenturbos. A few light mods, maybe, but a virgin is always better than a sluttt.
