Hey guys,
on a cold start Ive noticed the engine is really rattly for about 2-3 seconds, then it settles down to normal.
The noise is like a mechanical rattle for a few seconds almost like it is running dry until oil gets there then it quietens to normal.
The car has done 29000 miles and the noise is,it has to be said not a nice noise.

I've changed the oil+ filter using Oem filter and mobil1 0-40 oil filling up to right level, thought oil change could make a difference but it hasn't .

Is this something anybody has experience of and can help with?

You might try Valvoline VR1 20-50 racing oil. It contains high amounts of ZDDP, an anti-wear ingredient.

 

I've noticed the same thing. My 2007 TT, rattles briefly after a cold start when I haven't driven it in a few days. I assume that this isn't a problem because it goes away pretty quickly. I run Mobil 1.

 

I get a scary rattle as well. If I fail to start the car fully on the first key turn and turn it again, I get the loud rattle after the engine catches. Stock CPO car with recent dealer oil change. Not related to cold weather, or cold engine. Interested in any answers.

 

Could it be the type of fuel? What are you guys running?

 

Normal.Ask your dealer. All the hallmarks of the Mezger engine.

Normal? Never happens on my car.
