Choice between a 997 Turbo and a 997 GT3
SubscribeI'm in love with the 997 GT3, but have seen a couple of turbos lately. My question is: In terms of everyday drivability + thrill factor, am I better off with a turbo or GT3. I have to admit, I have a weakness for the GT3's looks, and it seems to keep its value quite well -- so I'm guessing the demand for the light-weight racers remain high. But will I regret driving one everyday, as opposed to a grand-touring Turbo?
Thanks!
Thanks!
The gt3, a DD not. Suspension is stiff, ride is rough for a true DD imo.
The turbo is a nice, fast DD.
On the track, a 997.1 tt will run with, or outrun a 997.1 gt3.
It's really all about your intended use.

Turbo = luxury, smooth, 4 seats (perfect for kids) super fun to drive every day and faster than the GT3 on the streets.
GT3 = pure racecar with no goodies, stiff and not comfortable for long trips.

Turbo a super car you can drive every day, comfy, durable, wicked fast.
GT3 street legal race car harsh, fast, high strung, huge fun in small doses.
But depends on your intended use, better DD than a Lotus.....

Turbo=Speed you will not find in anything under 200k, more comfortable than the rwd versions. Much more confidence in driving anywhere, anytime.
Gt3=trackday fun, flat-6 symphony.

Speed under $200k...Z06, ZR1, 13 GT500, Viper, CTSV..... Just in case speed is a deal breaker...Originally Posted by CarreraS997Blk

....and my buddy has a 10 GT3 and in the short drive (8 miles) I found it to be much less hard core than everyone describes.

A Turbo will $hit on a Z06, GT500 and obviously a CTS-V. A mildly modified Turbo will $hit on all the other cars and do it in style. Are you serious?Originally Posted by triblk6spd

Yep. I am not talking about a track of course as we were talking about daily drivers. And an...lets say 08 Turbo...**** a Z06? Lol I think not. And Id hate to be the guy that rolls up on a new GT500 in his Turbo on the street as it would be a heck of a run. Of the cars listed only the CTSV is "slower" every time.
Dont even talk about modified versions of the above because the dollar for dollar the Z06, ZR1 and the GT500 can be 10 sec street cars for WELL under $10k.

I'm 41= TT
Both are great machines
Depends on your use, traffic conditions where you live, weather, road quality and the age of your back
Sounds about right, I'm in between 21 and 41 and I keep wondering if I made the right decisionOriginally Posted by raclaims

OP: Everyone will provide you with the same input. I agree with the post above however it will ultimately come down to the test drive(s). Get in both and then make the decision.

A Z06 will make fun with a stock 997 Turbo on track. Even a 996 TT X50 is faster.Originally Posted by SUB-ZERO

Though they are put on a pedestal far too often, this is a case where I thought it worthwhile to mention Nurburgring times as I thought your statement was off the mark.Originally Posted by mikegr

The 997.1 turbo laps the 'Ring 5 seconds faster than the Z06 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...eife_lap_times).
I think there are some road courses where a stock z06 could be faster, but I don't think it's fair to say a Z06 will 'make fun' of it. I think most of the time it will come down to the driver

I just went through the same decision process last Fall and ended up with a .2 GT3. Drive them both back-to-back to get the best comparison. As everyone said, the TT is the better daily, but to me the better driver's car is the GT3. Hands down it's more fun to drive, but certainly not as comfortable as the TT. If I could have them both, I would.
