LED Question

I just purchased a 2009 997 tt and i have a question about the LED lights. this might be stupid, but are the lights in the front bumper supposed to be on or are they just the turn signals.. I am learning this car slowly so any help would be appreciated...

No problem. An led drl conversion is available, but it will cost you about $1k and you need to remove the front bumper. Check the vendor classifieds if you're interested.

Multiple vendors are providing this mod now:

Vivid Racing - I have these and they require bumper removal.
Maxspeed - Plug 'n Play, advertise that bumper removal isn't necessary
Del Rey Customs - I believe the bumper requires removal for their DRL also.
SpeedARt also provides this mod too. However, I think you need to supply the OEM turn signals and they modify those.

Interesting topic as I was considering a new thread regarding... I am very interested in such a mod as well... I have done many led upgrades during BMW ownership over the years and with confidence I say:

$1k is way too much! The housings are made and shaped from the factory and low voltage (or amperage...whichever?) wiring is already there. The r&d can't be enough to warrant that type of price point! It has blown my mind since I purchased my tt

It's called the "Porsche Tax."

With regards to removing the bumper - MaxSpeed advertises that you don't have to remove the bumper. Truthfully, front bumper removal is pretty easy, and you will have a much easier time reaching the harnesses and strapping down the wiring with the bumper off.
