A/C Stank

Does anyone have a way to kill a bad, musty odor emanating from the air conditioning vents? The good news is the problem is with one of my Audi's and not the P-car! Thanks in advance,

Try changing your cabin filter.

+2 Replacing your cabin filter is the first thing I would try also. Good luck and let us know if that solves the problem.

My 997tt is the only car I've been in that doesn't have the usual a/c stink when the a/c is turned off. Not sure what the secret is but thank you Porsche! My cabin filter was really dirty when it was recently changed but still no stink.

A new cabin filter was installed today and seems to have pretty much remedied the problem. The old filter was incredibly grungy after 3 years. I'll probably spray something into the inlet ducts to kill any other mold and whatnot growing in the system. Apparently, the condensation that forms on the evaporator eventually turns into a "science project" unto itself and those bugs, spores and other wee beasties need to be killed as well. Thanks for everyone's help! Best,

cabin filter should be changed every 15k miles. it's easy to do. get the charcoal ones for better filtration (pricey)
