Just curious, if all else was equal between the MYs is the upgrade from a Tiptronic TT to a PDK TT worth it? On say a car that would go to maybe a R911 Switzer package?

 

I think you can't install a R911 package on a PDK but you can on a built Tiptronic.

ESMOTOR rebuilt my Tiptronic this week and is now finishing installation of the turbo kit.
I thought about trading to a PDK but i preferred to spend the extra money on more power.

 

That is the dilemma I am currently undergoing

 

How much power can a PDK safely handle?

 

I've been told somewhere around either 600whp (perhaps up to 650?) or 600wtq. I don't recall exactly. But I was following along quite closely for a couple of years, so I'm not sure if anything has changed with the new 991 version...

 

So are guys getting their PDKs built to handle more?

 

Originally, this was the issue. They couldn't be built to handle anything much stronger than stock. One of the shops I was following was Champion, and they appeared quite knowledgeable regarding this.

But I vaguely recall something about the dimensions of either clutch being different, and they couldn't upgrade one of them, because there was no clearance (or room or sorts) to alter anything. Basically, there was no room for massive improvement (as of that time).

 

Interesting. So at some point in the future it would seem that the aftermarket performance segment will take a big hit - since PDK seems to be the future.

 

Either that, or enough people will want to offer money for upgrades, aftermarket will finally invest.

Anything is possible with enough money.
