3.8 built ready

Hi Speeders,

I caught back my car last week after 2 long monthes rebuilding my engine.
3.8kit, Carrillo rods, GT3 oilpump, upgraded studs, injectors, 3' Protomotive Xpipe...
I'm for now breaking in it from 800km, all I can say it the engine seems more reactive, and the sound is amazing!
My fuel consumption for 800km <10liters per 100kms! Saying I'm soft with the car!
I did two very short pulls up to 5500rpm yesterday EBC off, about 60/70% load: boost reached 1.4Bar!
My waste gates are exactlly preset same as before the built when they were allowing 1.1bar end 6th!
I mean the 3.8 kit + the freeflow exhaust increase 0,3Bar boost with the same WG settings, incredible, not!?
I will loosen the WG springs and rebalance them ASAP

Cheers,

P.

Very nice P

What studs did you go for?

Did you not go for the cams?

Does your engine sound more high pitch now?

My studs are from Supertec and my cams stock, enough money was already involved in this business for now...
But why not bolting new cams in the future when we put the engine out of the car, with a clutch or so...
The engine sounds very agressive with this exhaust, I'm not surprised Ali your boost grew with it, I'm gonna balance my WG springs softer tomorrow to be safe.

have heard good things about Supertec and the fact that they have a good clamping force without machine work is a good option. We tend to go with the machining and 11.4mm studs simply because it stops the worry about the head gaskets but clearly that costs more money. You have to work to your budget of course - we oring the heads as well. What is the actual cc of the car?

We had to tap deeper the crankcase to bolt the Supertec's, giving them better clamping.

okay so not too much if just tapping. We do the same and drill the holes to the bottom as they are not always consistent. Sounds good....have seen quite a few gen 1 cars with head gaskets gone this year already. same thing on the 996 turbo - there only so much torque you can run !

I know that you already posted this but can you remind me your turbos setup and gearbox type?
Can you reveal more about your 3" proto exhaust? Catted or catless? Felt any drone at low rpms?

The period of break in a new rebuild is very exciting... Almost like buying a brand new car. Congrats

Alpha3071s and manual tranny.
The 3' Proto Xpipe is catless, a bit loudy (no more than a Ferrari V12 with open exhaust vanes) but absolutely no drone at any rpm I ran for now.

I lowered my WG tonight to 0,8Bar instead of 1,1, I will try tomorrow and hope the boost won't exceed 1Bar...
I checked the hoses from Ypipe to FPR, EBC and WG caps, all is OK and no leak.

Full boost with pure pumpgas won't exceed 1.3Bar I believe, I hope for about 750crankHp&950Nm, but overall a very responsive engine for street use.

I will perhap's try Todd's E85 tune if I need more, I will see in the future...

I have seen 1.6 with my syvecs and 4.1 engine on pump.. Ryan told me i can easily go 1.7 too.. So use a dyno and check..
