Newb question: short shifter
Newb question: short shifter
Hello everyone,
Please excuse my newb question. I picked up 997tt two days ago and I have the factory short shifter installed in the car. Is there a way of telling diference between short and non short version? other than the obvious feel
Any visual difference?
Thanks

Not a "Newb" question. The throw should obviously be shorter but, I drove a turbo that had this option and to be quite honest I cant remember if it really felt any better..? Thinking of changing my standard throw to something shorter though.
In my experience short shifter are nice because you can switch gear faster with less travel in between. SS on the 997 seems ok but not as short as my previous
I think I test drove a c4s without ss but I can't remember how it felt . Gotta get behind the wheel again once this weather gets better
My car came with the stock shifter and in my opinion it was sloppy. I upgraded it immediately to the EVO motorsport short shifter and billet linkage and it was worlds apart. I do not track my car but it is a DD and a necessary mod.
Could you share the link where to get it and some pictures of yours?

thx
Great info. Thanks AZ!
When I picked up my turbo I traded my 4s with a factory ssk and gr3 shift ****. I asked the dealer to transfer my **** and ssk to the turbo. They swapped the ssk but not the **** do I drove the car with the standard turbo **** and factory ssk. There is no difference in height between the normal shift kit and together ssk. The big difference is in feel of the gearshifts. With the ssk all the slop is removed and the shift action in shorter stiffer and more positive. This is not a track mod it improved feel of the shift interaction but will not make you any faster. It just makes the car more fun to drive

How is she doing? I do miss her but my 665bhp CTS-V coupe does fill the void for the street and the full M3 race car does a nice job on the track. It lacks the straight line thrust of the turbo but makes up for it with the full aero downforce package from bimmerworld in the corners. My buddy in his Lambo SL hates when I'm up his *** in almost every corner! Lol. I'm glad the TT went to a good home!
Sorry for dragging up an old thread - like the OP I have just purchased a new 997.1TT and wondering if the short shifter was installed. The responses don't answer the question - how can you tell if the car has the SS option fitted? I assume the length of the shifter is shorter (!) but without a reference dimension I can't tell.
There is also mention of being able to read codes from the car to tell what options were fitted. Where are these codes and how do you read them?
