How to remove OEM Transmission Carrier Inserts? Thoughts?
How to remove OEM Transmission Carrier Inserts? Thoughts?
I am trying to install a set of 75A transmission mount inserts. I have the car on a lift and supported the tranny and removed the carrier.
Now I am trying to get the factory/OEM inserts out, and cannot really think of any good way to achieve this? The rubber is super tough. I do not have a press, so am thinking of ways to cut it? hammer it? Heat it?
Just looking for thoughts here and perhaps if anyone else has done this upgrade, how you got the factory inserts out of the carrier.
Thanks!

I'm not sure if there is enough clearance but other times I have dealt with bushings like this, I've drilled holes in the rubber which made it easier to cut. Once you cut the rubber piece out of the middle it shouldn't be so hard to use a chisel or something to bend the metal out. This is always a pain, good luck!

Update - Got them out....Screwdriver wedged between sleeve and bushing ring, opened up enough to use a chisel on the edge of the bushing...squirted some PB Blaster around the ring...couple of taps and it popped out.
Tip for anyone doing the inserts install (or just reinstalling the mount...When you try to align the bushing with the bolt holes in the tranny....it is a B*** to get lined up. I used my laptop and a small endoscope camera...jiggled it around with the camera in the bushing hole...and I could see through the camera when the threads lined up...then bolt went right in! Otherwise would have likely been fiddling for a LOOOOONG time.

How do you like these bushings? I have RSS motor mounts and I can tell I need to do trans bushings...I can literally feel the trans bouncing around now thanks to the RSS motor mounts, heh. Trying to decide whether to do this or try the 'function first' inserts that just go into the gaps in the bushing.

Well...I just got to drive it for a bit yesterday....And I have the RSS motor mounts and the Torque tranny inserts...and I would say "it is not for the faint of hearts
"....I like it, but man you can feel serious vibrations through the car...with no rubber anywhere that is to be expected....but definitely do NOT feel any tranny shaking.....I like it, but over time, I will have to determine if it is too much?Hope that helps....

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it would definitely be too harsh for my cab. Perhaps I'll just try replacing the OEM trans mount with a new one. These .1's are getting old enough that I'm sure a lot of the factory rubber is worn out.

Yes, pressing out the OEM bushings can be avoided if using the Function-First trans mount inserts. It also allows you to return your car to stock condition easily, such as when selling it.
We recently came out with the option for a softer insert for those of you that want to keep the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) down, but still preserve some of the added performance benefits!

So if you want to tinker with your car...maybe try those Function First inserts...If you are doing it because you think you need them, I think you may be shocked how good they look when you get the carrier off.
Good luck either way....

Interesting, perhaps Porsche knows how to make rubber bushings better than BMW does. Had a 10ish year old BMW 3-series and had to replace nearly anything that was rubber in that car...
I just ordered the street version function-first inserts, I'll make a post once I get em installed.
