PCCB damage

So I was cleaning the car today and noticed some damage to the surface of my front right rotor.

It doesn't appear serious but considering the nature of these rotors I wanted to put it out there for your feedback.

Last thing I want to hear is that I need to replace it.

Will work out how to post photos add update the thread.

Ive no idea how or when it happened. I only bought the car last week after a Porsche PPI and warranty check.

So either they missed it during the check or saw it and didn't consider significant. Or the damage happened in the last week. Whatever the case, I'm pi**ed!

I do not think that is a PCCB rotor? I will check mine when I get home and post a picture.

Yep, its a PCCB rotor.

I don't see any delamination, and technically the rotor is covered in holes anyway :-) probably drilled with a diamond bit rather than a rock in this case.

My hope is that in its current state it will not progress or delaminate.

The car has 37K kms, so early days for the PCCB rotor.

Should be fine

I would not worry too much. I had a chip like that a few p-cars ago and put about 15k miles on it without any problems.

Thats what Im hoping, just aesthetically damaged, not functionally. Also noticed a couple of nice big chunks out of the same wheel paint...Aghhhhh! Guess it must have been a decent sized stone, hit the rim, bounced off the rotor and took a piece of both for a leaving present.

Expensive hobby this, isn't it?

Looks like a tool mark damage to me. Someone likely damaged the rotor while either taking the wheel off, swaping the pads or working of the suspension. Had any work done lately?

Usually you see PCCB rotors similarly chipped when the during wheel change the wheel drops on top of the rotor and chips the top rotor edge. In any case, this type of damage is superficial and wouldn't affect your braking of rotor life. Nothing to worry about.

Interesting comment...When the car was in for its warranty check, they replaced the front tyres..

I swear this wasn't there when I originally inspected the car. I made sure to check the rotors thoroughly.

You may have a good point...I wonder if I should approach Porsche? Hard to prove.

Buyer beware is what is comes down to. Many times - even after PPI, you end up with some issue that was missed. Going after anyone is difficult if not impossible.

Bot 2009 Turbo manual - everything checked out - two months later clutch needed to be replaced - started slipping - and not due to me (we all say that I guess!). Expected dealer response - wear and tear item under CPO - not covered.

Bot G55 wagon - all looked good and I missed the front rotors - they were shot. Not too much $$, but tough to find the perfect gem.

I honestly think that even if I would have noticed the rotors in the case of the truck the dealer would just have said its my opinion - and continued selling as is. The dealer was too far away from my home so could not even go back to them to replace (not that they would have given any discount).

Just some food for thought on a Friday.

Yeah. End of day its a 7 year old motor. Going to take it slowly and bring it up to a standard I'm happy with. Got it for a good price so still ahead. Next steps...stone chips..where's my langka?

I wouldn't worry about that. Won't affect performance

This is why a PPI is useless. Unless someone has a vested interest in doing an inspection its a crap shoot.

I would carefully watch it and maybe take a look at your pads.
