Nearly stranded again!
Nearly stranded again!
Took the turbo up to the central coast, 'depress clutch' on dash despite clutch in the morning after I get there. Clutch sensor failed, cheap part and looks like an easy install.
Quick google search netted tons of similar experiences with 997 cars that all share this same part. Might be worth having one on hand if you have not had it replaced already.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that even if you get the message and car won't start right off, that if you continue to hold the key in the start position, it will work. Did I dream this?

i am confused. where is this clutch sensor, what does it accomplish. I just had my clutch replaced with slav etc, but tech never mentioned a clutch sensor. I guess a light comes on, but what does it indicate. And you say you were nearly stranded?? How could this have stopped the vehicle?
I had this sensor replaced under CPO, along with clutch slave and accumulator. You start to notice an intermittent issue when starting the car, sometimes you have to try 2-3 times before the starter will engage with the clutch pedal depressed.

Thanks for warning info. Seems like pulling hen's teeth getting such crucial info from 6speed or dealer. When my clutch slav went out and too when clutch was replaced....when that question was asked, i.e. are there any other porsche clutch-related achilles' heels that need replacing, from both sources, the clutch switch was never mentioned. Seems like there would be a way to bypass the thing in an emergency or to bypass it altogether like clutches use to be..

Quick update, I installed the part last night, easy install direct swap, one screw. Make sure you have a right angle Philips handy as there is no space in there.
The part number had changed from the original one installed on the car but looked identical. Car fired up immediately.
Strangely the stock part was very lose, the screw had backed out. Had no effect on the performance of the part however but something to keep en eye out for. No clue how that could have happened.
