Options for reading the DME for overrun report
Options for reading the DME for overrun report
Hi,
Looking at purchasing a MY09 997TT cab but it is in a location with no Porsche dealer nearby to check the DME for overruns.
Is this something a performance shop or Eurocar maintenance shop can do? Or do I have to purchase the Durametric cable?
Alternatively as I will be buying a tune for the car, do any of the tuner options allow me to read the DME for overruns (saves buying a Durametric for a 1-off report, I can buy the tune up front).
Thanks.

I would honestly just buy a Durametric cable. They are worth every penny
If you can't wait for one to be shipped, you could call around to shops in the area to see if anyone has the ability to check.
Good luck!

On tunes...Softronic comes with Durametric cable and you can even upgrade it to the Pro version. I have had the tune for a while and has been awesome. You will want the Pro cable as the Enthusiast limits you to 3 VINs.
Good luck.

Indy shops could do it if they have the tool.

While nothing is impossible...The correct answer is "No", it cannot be overwritten or erased. At least not without detection and/or other issues. I believe there is a type of check-sum / validation byte, and if it was attempted and/or could be done, it would create a detection point, and/or error.
Again...nothing is impossible, but basically you cannot overwrite or delete under normal circumstances.

I have the overrun report from the owner selling the '09 cab that I'm looking at purchasing, it is low miles 18K, 2nd owner (a lady) who has put most of the miles on the car. Here is the overrun report - what do you guys think?
Range 1: 681 (at 658 hours)
Range 2: 78 (at 658 hours)
Range 3: 9 (315 hours)
Range 4: 9 (315 hours)
Range 5: 8 (303 hours)
Range 6: 2 (303 hours)
current hours 682
The report from the dealer has the range 5 and 6 overrevs highlighted, I guess to show the owner the concern about them. The car is still under warranty and is obviously still OK as the overruns were 8K miles ago.
Is this anything to be concerned about, especially the range 5 & 6 (split second around 20mSec but over 9K revs!)? From reading other threads it says that engine damage is likely. Should I walk away from this one?

But use the report as a reason for haggling the price down

If you like the car, I would get it.

Thanks guys. I agree it is probably phantom readings, as I can't see how the motor could be running at those revs for only 20 milliseconds or so - even the PDK can't change gears that quickly or the car slow down that quickly.
Glitches for sure. And I have been saying it has to do with the 1.2 mm sensor adjustment at the flywheel. I have had it occur to my car which sits in the garage a large percentage. I don't drag my car, don't downshift to wrong gear, etc. it's a glitch period. Just like the coolant leaks, just another quirk these cars have.
