Road race with C7

Well, I didn't figure my wife would ever find out what "launch mode" felt like, but she got a sniff of it Saturday night.

I was sitting at a light and a modded out C7 coupe pulls up next to me, racing the living hell out of his engine. Just in case I couldn't hear him (my top was down), while the light was still red, he lunged forward into the intersection, and shot back even with me, racing his motor some more. I looked at my wife and said "I think he wants to race me, what do you think?"

I turned off the AC, hit the sport plus, and before I could get quite ready I could hear what sounded like a launch system on his C7, roaring the rpms. I hit the break, the throttle, and I got over 5200 rpms at just about the perfect time. We got off the line at exactly the same time, and I was a half a block into this and I had a two car lead. Since I had no desire to race any further in a 40 mph zone, I broke hard. and let him continue.

My wife asked me if I could smell the burned rubber from my tires. I told her that that's HIS rubber she's smelling, that mine was too busy hugging the pavement, lol.

Kinda funny. This guy was a caricature almost, and I couldn't resist. I wonder if he would have had a chance if we traveled a quarter...will never know. Fun anyway. But, the wife likes me a little less for biting on this dude's challenge.

I'm sure you would have had more than a chance at a quarter mile. Now the Z07, that might have been close

The problem with launch control is that it doesn't work too well with traction control on. It works better with traction control off.

And then the problem is that even with traction control off, it might spin too much and bog 2nd gear.

The best launch on a 997.2 TTS occurs with sport +, trac off, and TOYO R888. It makes a significant difference in 0-60 times. With this setup, you'll ALWAYS hit 0-60 in under 3.0 seconds.

With regular summer tires, you'll be lucky to hit 3.5 seconds. You could've been ahead by 100 feet by the time you hit 45 mph if you had this setup. I just happen to know...

Don't know so much that I "smoked" him, but I got off the line so much faster, and he was so cocky. I'm not much of a driver, and certainly not much of a racer, but the whole thing made me curious about doing some quarter mile runs.

What I meant is the vette driver probably wanted it to go longer to reel him in. The OP is like a z06 driver bragging about killing a Porsche turbo S from a roll race. It's as simple as pressing the gas. AWD will always murder rwd. But yeah if the c7 driver didn't know turbos are awd he does now lol
