So why exactly does a gt3 seem to hold value better than a 997 turbo?

In the long run if you want 997 Turbo Coupe with manual transmission, it will be much more rare than 997 GT3. 997 Turbo can be civilized and with a touch of button it turn into a beast. Seriously, give it a few more years and 997 Turbo coupe MT will be an appreciating asset.

Same will happen to manual 997 turbo coupe, give it time.
As mentioned, not so many made and a 'collector' 911 is a manual coupe imo.
Once you can't find low miles decent cars value will go up rapidly.
But honestly, I do not care, as a road car the turbo is so much more enjoyable and fun. At least for me.

True, 993RS increased in value dramatically long before the 993 turbo and normal 993's.

GT3 heads and valve train are a lot nicer than the Turbo. GT2 transmissions are geared "better" and can take more abuse. There are quite a few things in the GT2/3 that are upgraded over the Turbo. The ultimate Porsche would be a 9000rpm Turbo GT3 engine .
