So why exactly does a gt3 seem to hold value better than a 997 turbo?

First thread mainly a Z06 guy looking for his next step up and have been lurking for a month or so.

I don't understand this. The turbo is faster on the street, the gt3 is designed to be a track car therefor is more likely to be tracked and beat on. Why do they hold value so much better than a turbo? Due to the aero I think the gt3 looks better but as a street platform I really think the turbo is superior.

Three things:
1. Rarity, extremely low production numbers
2. Normally aspirated
3. Racing pedigree

A turbo in my neck of the woods is already super rare. The other two I don't care about so good I was hoping it wasn't anything I was missing.

Simple. Production numbers. There are just less. The other two I do not think matter as much. There are plenty of people that prefer Turbo over NA motors. Porsche has the racing pedigree not GT3 brand in my opinion. It is one of the many brands that make up the Porsche racing pedigree. It is the fact they make less, less to choose from when buying therefore the sellers can hold prices higher.

24.000 Turbos vs 6000 gt3. (Gen 1+2)

Also the new gt3 was/is not reliable so the old ones hold their value.

Maybe gt3 will reappear sometime with manual.

Interesting will be what will happen with GT2, when it was the last and as much as they statet they will only build a gt2rs sometime.

I bought my turbo 1.5 years ago. (Came from z06).

When i was looking to buy gt3s and turbos were about the same price for similar milage. At MOST gt3 was 6-7k more. Now they are about 20k more. I think part of the recent hike is mostly due to the new gt3 not really being the same vs the new turbo pretty much is (at least as 10-12 tt with pdk).

Sorry my Turbo friends, but the GT-series are just better cars for non daily driving purposes.

It's not all necessarily a NA vs Turbo thing either. Take the GT2 RS for example. Turbo and it holds value (I believe it's appreciating actually). Just there's a lot more TT/TTS than there are GT cars.

997 GT3s have held value very well over the last year partly due to the fact that the 991 GT3 engines were tossing rods all over the place and burning to the ground.

To be fair, how many of those 24,000 turbos were coupe/manual?

I have noticed an uptick in 997tt w/6sp prices creeping up as well (esp well kept low mileage ones), but nothing like the gt3s. Pretty soon when all the modern/supercars go the way of some version of auto tranny (no 3rd pedal), were all going to cling on to every late model 6sp that were produced.

Its hard for me to get away from my 6sp tt into any 'newer' supercar due to the fact that I dont want to give up the 3rd pedal!
