I am going to look at a 2007 997 turbo tomorrow and just paid for a carfax & auto check report. The reports were not exactly clean which may be the reason for the price. I already intended to get a PPI but based on these reports should I just walk away now? The car seems to be priced well below market @ $45k with ~42k miles. Below is the car fax which shows two accidents, auto check only reports one accident. Both reports indicate that airbags were deployed. The second accident which car fax shows also mentions structural damage. I also found a dealer who was trying to sell the car years ago, they describe the accident but who knows if they are telling the truth, link:

Run, don't walk away! I personally will not consider a TT with any damage history. There's a reason it's so cheap, no one will buy it.

 

It all depends. How cheap can you get it? What are the plans for it? Lot's of Mods? It doesn't have a salvage title? Any pics of it now, what are the mods? If you are on that kinda budget, might be a good learner car, to figure out how it all works.

My first 996 turbo was a higher mileage(66K), road car, not a garage queen. Great interior, some mechanical issues, minor stone chips. I learned a lot. And fixed a few things myself.

Once I was sure I liked the whole thing, I made a great trade for a newer low mileage 997. Very Clean. But 2X the value of the 996.

 

Too many red flags for me. Hitting a guard rail, as stated in carfax, and airbags deployed sounds more serious than hitting something minor in the road as stated by the dealer. If you buy this car, be prepared to hold on to it for a very long time because it will be very difficult to sell.

 

^^ right it's not the cheap price, but the impossible resale that kills this deal.

 

I owned a Range Rover that turned into a complete lemon and was unsellable to the general public. I ended up selling it through a dealer at auction. My thought with this car is that if the inspection turned out okay and we could agree on price, maybe closer to $40k, I could always sell the car at auction when I'm ready to move on. I plan to use the car as a daily driver however I also have a work truck. Not sure about mods, I've gone down that road with other cars.

Is it worth it to pay and have the car inspected? At ~ $40k it seems like a no brainer. What are cars like this getting at auction now?

Structure damage and air bag deployment not worth the aggravation of resale. I rather get a descent 996 TT at $40k

 

Is this even a question? I'd beat Usain Bolt high tailing it outta there...

 

All four brake rotors and pads replaced in first 12 months........she has had a hard life......as already said.....resale will be a challenge and if you go the auction route I think you will inevitably loose in money.....remeber these cars are not inexpensive to repair and maintain and the more abuse it has had the more likely you are to be paying out...even at $40k get a PPi.....eyes wide open as they say.
