997.1 to 997.2 - worth it?

Hello - it's been a while since Ive been here. Any thoughts on trading 2007 997.1 for a 2011 997.2?

Thanks

Yes - manual.

I've been researching the possible appreciation of the mezgar engine and i can't find anything realistic about if it will go up.

Any thoughts?

What are the specs of your .1, condition, and mileage? I think all of these will be factors.

Mezger*

Very collectable , desirable color and low enough miles. I would keep it.
That being said , a 997/2 manual is extremely rare and being the very last, will imo also be a good investment, both fun wise and money wise.

Totally depends on what your criteria for "worth it" is. Just to have something new? Performance? Aesthetics? PCM? Different features? How much more will you pay? What's that amount of extra money worth to you?

Impossible question to answer without any details.

Thanks for the replies.

My thoughts are around updated PCM, a little extra horsepower, aesthetic updates/wheels.

I found your past write up - thanks for that.

Does the front end bite better in the .2?

You are out of warranty. 997.2s are almost/basically out of warranty. Everything you have listed above is easily changed and in ways better with aftermarket.

Aftermarket PCM-1500
Tune-1500
Wheels with tires-3500
Tail lights-600

~7000 you have a 997.2.

You can probably find wheels (even stock .2s) cheaper. Not to mention everything above can be resold for little to no loss.

I suppose gas milage is better in the .2

Excellent, was going to find the link. Add to that thread. The front end handles completely differently, the suspension is totally upgraded. The .2 doesn't wallow like a porpoise like the .1 does.

Not even close. Suspension is totally improved. Sport mode is much more compliant. Regular mode, much better. You also get front LED driving lights. The motor is bigger and sounds better with exhaust. With PDK, the car is 0-60 in 3.2 seconds, much faster than a stock .1.

I mean in all fairness, to get the real 997.2 updated rear lights, it's probably closer to 4k. (rear bumper, lights, exhaust tips etc).

Maybe your previous car had bad shocks ? My car does not wallow as you mention.

Software is improved on 997/2, I agree.
But suspension parts from reputable tuners like Techart have one part number for both 997/1 and 997/2.
The big difference is in the software but the DSC module takes care of that.
A lowered 997/1 with DSC gives you all the software improvements of the 2 and you get to keep the iconic Mezger engine.

Never understood why Porsche took this cheap route. Doesn't look good and are sitting in the wrong spot. They should have developed the DRL in the blinkers.
Position is perfect for fog lights which you get in the 1.

If PDK is of importance go for the 991 turbo. PDK is light years better on that car. But I believe OP wants manual for manual. If so I still believe the 997/1 he has is the better car. Mezger engine will be a huge factor in the future.
I am fortunate enough to speak 4 languages, hence I visit several forums around the world. The mezger factor is everywhere a big +.
And it is only going to become more important over the years.

Agree, the PDK 997/2 is faster than a stock 997/1.
But the PDK car is also faster than a 964 3.6 Turbo, 993 turbo , etc
Has no bearing on future collectability or disirability of the older cars.

And regarding sound, I have a Europipe on my 997/1 and love it. Best Porsche sound for me.

Having said that, the 997/2 is a great great super Porsche, has a very well constructed engine. Is improved compared to 997/1. Would be a super car to own and enjoy. But from a collectable stand point the .1 is the one to have.
Especially the 2009.
