Whirring/Whining Noise and the fun that follows

Well...Was going to beef up the car a bit to get ready for the next no-fly-zone..On the way home from work....I started hearing a noise from the engine compartment....Sounded like maybe the idler pulley or something....

So I started taking it apart and listening and as luck would have it...the water pump! I ordered the part, and also changed plugs and a bunch of other stuff while I had/have access...pump should be in next week, and went ahead and got both idler pulleys while I am at it....Changed Plugs, Oil, and various other items including new silicon boost pipes...

Attached pics of the water pump for reference. Once you make access for yourself, it is not bad. I would hate to try this with engine in place

May put a DIY after done if I have time and if any interest....

DC

Well that sucks, but at least you have always been mechanically handy. Where did you purchase the adjustable jack stand? I need one of those in my garage!!

Yes...but at least I caught it before the No Fly Zone next month I don't know how handy I am, but do get lucky figuring these things out and usually fixing them...

On the stand, I got it at Greg Smith Equipment. They have an online store. It is nothing special, but does hold the engine, and easy to move up and down by twisting the handle...

Rock, how many miles on the car? I was debating having the water pump changed when I had my plugs/coilpacks done recently - I think they dropped the engine but not sure. Anyway, I was given mixed opinions so I didn't end up changing it. My car has less than 50k miles on it. Perhaps I'll change it up next year...

I changed my water pump proactively at 40k when I had all the other work done and the motor was out.

Glad you were able to get the WP issue sorted quickly!

I have just over 46K (miles). I think it is pretty random and hit and miss like many other issues (coolant pipes, Spun Camshaft, etc.)...Luck of the draw

If you get in there for other stuff, it would make sense to go ahead as once accessible should not be too $$ ?

Take care,

Yeah....Thanks! Positive view, is I went ahead and changed a bunch of other stuff like plugs etc., while I had easy access...and a little time.

Follow up -

All back together and it runs great! Boost is strong and accelerates fast and smooth. No parts leftover, and nothing fell off or blew up yet

Really not a bad job...

Did WP along with thermostat last year. Not bad of a job but the thermostat added a couple of hours of my time due to a hard to reach bolt
