Cat died

So I threw a CEL and took it to the shop. They said that one of my cats is dead and most likely the other one is not far behind.

The car already had a Fabspeed exhaust system when I bought it. Not sure if the cats are fabspeed as well but I'm thinking they are.

Called up Fabspeed and they said a set of new cats would be $1895.

What are some viable options? Get new replacement cats from Fabspeed? Muffler deletes with 200 cell cats?

Any and all input is much appreciated!

I have a set of fabspeed cats that i could let go for a good price, let me know if you decide to go that route, cats have no more than 4k miles and it perfect condition. They use 200-cell HJS Sport cats, and came out of my Fabspeed Maxflo exhaust performance system.

I wouldn't replace your failed product with the same product. You could run catless and get a tune - by far the cheapest option.

Options:

1. Gut (hollow) your cats out, weld spacers on your O2 sensors to prevent CEL. This is going to be the most cost effective route, faster spool and you would make more power!

2. Completely new exhaust system: For $1895 to replace Fabspeeds cats only, for a completely new exhaust systems can cost a little more then $1895 for a new superior sounding and performing system! Others have mentioned some really good manufacturers already, but for me you can't beat SpeedTech & even the more after you weigh in the price!

Hope that helps!

I would gut your cats and get a tune - for the replacement cost, you will come ahead...and it would sound way cooler.
There is nothing wrong with the Fabspeed system - those cats are most likely 200cell and they do go bad...from Fabspeed or from anyone else.

So...I gotta ask. No issues passing emissions without cats?

Yes you can pass emissions without cats or with 100-200 cell cats you need "mini cat" not just extenders as extenders are not enough. Mini cats run $100. Pm for link if you need. Make sure your tuner does not disable o2 as this will show "not ready" for emissions
