What is etiquette on contacting a previous owner?

I just picked up a 997.1TT from a used car dealer.
He gave me a bunch of receipts from the previous owner which show his full info, name/address/phone.
Is it improper to call or txt him to ask for some info.

Thanks in advance

Agreed. The Car world is a small world. Car projects on forums make it even smaller

When I was searching for my turbo, there was a car at a dealer I was interested in, it had small car club sticker on it and I tracked the previous owner down through their Facebook group. I chatted with him at length about the car, he was happy to talk about it(he traded it on a 991 GT3).

Didn't end up buying the car but I had a positive experience tracking a previous owner down.

I called the first owner of my car after purchasing from the 2nd owner. He was totally fine with me contacting him.

They don't own it anymore so I can't see why anyone would care. They should be more than happy to give you the truth about said vehicle since they're not liable any longer.

I'd always welcome someone calling me too.

I sent the first owner of my GTR a message on Facebook and told him I had bought the car and just wanted to say hello and that I had cool plans for it if he was interested in watching them unfold. We became FB friends and even though that car has been gone for years, still keep up through FB. Cool guy.

Always a good idea to try..

I say yes, for sure, always a good idea to try and contact the previous owner. They may or may not respond, but if they do it is a vood source of the car's history.

I contacted the previous owner when I bought my 997tt. He was happy for me and enjoyed providing me answers to my questions.
