The first thing you need to ask yourself is do you want a manual or PDK. Turbo S was only available in PDK for model years 2011-2012. The next question is do you want a 997.1 (2007-2009) or 997.2 (2010-2012).
Pros of 997.1
- Widely available manual trans
-Mezger motor (potential to extensively modify, motorsport heritage)
- More examples made hence more to choose from
Cons of 997.1
-Coolant line issue
- Clutch Slave cylinder
-Older PCM unut
-Older "dated" rear end (subjective and easily upgraded to .2 rear end)
Pros of 997.2
-PDK availability
-Centerlock wheels availability
-Updated rear end and PCM 3.0
-3.8 DFI motor (faster than 997.1 talking stock for stock)
Cons of 997.2
-Manual only produced in 2010 and very few examples made (hard to find and command a price premium)
-3.8 DFI motor has fueling limitations if you are planning to highly modify
-Turbo S is typically more expensive
If you want a fast car with a PDK that you are planning to throw an exhaust / tune on it and drive the hell out of, a 997.2 could be the right choice. If you want a manual car that you could potentially build for a 4 digit horsepower number, a 997.1 could be the right choice. Best advice I could give is to drive both and see what speaks to you more.

slightly different budget too. .1 will be 75k for a nice one and .2 will be 90-100k for a nice one.

I want a 2011 or 12,PDK is fine, its the Turbo vs. Turbo S im not sure about..im 70, not a hot rodder, mature driver, thinking the S might be a bit much for me,the S is a bit pricey but if Im spending that much, i dunno...Do the S models not depreciate as much as the base Turbo.

997.2TT Manual Transmission
The 997.2TT was available with manual transmission from 2010 to 2013 model years with most being made in model year 2011 - one site (Pors9) says about 300 997.2TT manual transmission coupes sold in North America.

The 997.2 Turbo S was manufactured from 2011-2013 for the US market. It only came with a PDK. They are becoming the preferred 997.2 "car of choice". They are not depreciating very much and appear to have leveled off in the $95-105K range. Coupes are holding their value very well against the cabs. But this is normal in the 997.1 and 997.2 world. IMO find a turbo S with a good service history, don't worry about the number of previous owners (it's an enthusiast car and they trade often into the latest and greatest), get-in, hang on and enjoy the ride.
