On the plus side, they've done a million Mezger engine removals so they were able to get it out and back in in like 5 hours. They said they probably could have done the operation with the engine in the car but they're so fast at it that pulling it was actually less labor overall.
Ah right, ok thanks. Sounds like a decent bill then! Yes, I have never removed a Porsche engine before, but plenty of others, I dont see anything magic to it. In fact it looks quite nice to remove, very well thought out!
I think it will probably take me 5 hours to get it out the first go!! How much labour was it to replace the lines? or was that 5 hours total? If so that gives me an idea of how much I have to remove if i take it out!! thanks

Yeah, I'm sure for your first time getting it out will be an ordeal. After that, though, the labor charges weren't much. I don't have it in front of me but I think once the engine was out, labor was maybe 3-4 hours. The lines were definitely a huge chunk of the bill, and I was lucky to find some super low-miles used OEM turbochargers + actuators right here on 6speed for a good price.

Fortunately, everything else on the engine looked great, and with how cheaply they can get the motor out and how expensive my plugs-and-coils service became I decided to put most of that other "while you're in there" stuff off till later.

I dont have the concrete thickness for it unfortunately I dont think, or I would do. Might have to just do it off stands but I have yesterday bought a mid rise lift but need the car running again to be able to move it, then install the lift to put the car on it !!!
I did think its probably less hassle to do it off stands this time, then fit the lift for next time rather than get the car running again on the old turbos, although I didnt do anything irreversible yet...!!

Thanks! That is really useful. I will probably triple those times then for a first time at it, as I will not know any of the tips and tricks. It gives me a lot of confidence though knowing that a shop can do it in that sort of time, so it cant be that bad, hopefully!
