In the threads about coolant pipes and cam issues I’ve seen it mentioned that these problems affect 07’s more, is there definitive truth to that? Are there any real differences between the years with anything else? Thanks

I've read the things that you mention. I often read that the adhesive used for the coolant pipes in the 2008 and 2009 cars were improved over the 2007 cars, and therefore there are less coolant pipe failures. I have no idea if this is true or not. Aside from that, I don't know of any differences between the cars. The cabriolet was introduced in 2008, but I don't know of any other differences.

The story I always hear is that cars delivered in the 2nd half of 08 will have the new-and-improved adhesive. Basically, that early 08s don't have it yet.

I guess I would still want to weld or pin the pipes when the engine is out for something else. The cam issue is a little more worrisome. Has anyone replaced cams and had it happen again?

I have an 07 and have had it from new.....has 39k miles now. Had the coolant pipes done under warranty in 2018 and had them put the sharkworks kit as the replacement parts. Really had no other issues with the car from the engine other than a broken coolant T pipe at the rear of the engine when it had 2k miles.

I have a 2008. Mine still had the coolant pipe issues. I changed them out with the Sharkwerks set.

Not sure if it was early or later in the year production.

That was introduced the 09 model year on Turbos. Part of the 09's special appeal.

From what I understand, yes the late 2008 had an improved adhesive, but regardless of what year 997.1tt, you should pin them as a precautionary measure. Just budget that into your purchase price as it's something you should do regardless.
