Trade In Value on 996T

Any thoughts on the trade in value for my 2002 996 Turbo? Dealer is offering what I think is way, way under trade in value--kind of ticks me off considering that I am paying MSRP for my 997 Turbo. Here are the specs on my 996T:

2002 Turbo
23000 miles
Porsche Certified (6 years, 100,000 miles)
Basalt Black w/ Gray Interior
18 inch HRE 540 Reverse Lip Wheels
Michelin Pilot Sports
EVO sport exhaust
EVO sport shifter
EVO diverter valves
Sirius Satellite Radio
H&R sport springs
Aluminum Gauges
Basalt Black painted center console
cargraphic petals

Also have stock wheels and stock exhaust

Also remember, mods don't really mean anything to dealers when it comes to trades but mid 60's sounds about right like noted above.

Dealers never go with those sources such as KBB, Edmonds or NADA.
They have the wholesale guys and based on the time of the year and demand your car price gets determined.

It's sad how rip off they are.. i got 3 diffferntprices to trade in my 996 40th anniv in the earlt summer time and ended up selling it privately for a bit more.

You could sell off the mods and then trade it in. Do you have the EVO/Milltek exhaust?

steve-i think that is a typical trade in value. sell privately if you want more, but you will lose the sales tax benefit of trade.

Thanks everyone for you input.

O-Ace--I do have an EVO exhaust, but am not sure which type it is. It is loud, but I really like the sound.

If you do sell it privately, ask your dealer that you are purchasing the new car from to do a courtesy trade. They should do it for you for next to nothing to you.

dealer trade-in value is always about 3~5k below KBB pricing from my experience.

Everyone on this board must realize by now that mods do not fetch and $$$ on trade in.
and 20C4S is on the money when he says that dealers are always $3k-$5K south of bluebook.
Now, lets try to use those numbers to our advantage.
We all know the first thing someone does when they go to rid themselves of a car is bring it to a dealer for a trade in quote.
Without fail, everyone is offended by the trade in value being south of Blue Book. So now we go home and put it up on auto trader at private party value (and it usually takes months for someone to call.) (Or we get the call from some other car broker site that wants to upsell us on advertising.)

-- So what does this mean, as a seller, you get a bit screwed. But, as a buyer, there is some potentially great information for us to use in our offer.
If as a buyer, we can figure out what the dealership has offered on the car (lets call it the low offer) if the buyer comes in a few thousand above the dealership offer, chances are good, you will get the car at "trade in" value instead of "private party" which is much much higher.
This is especially true in states like California where there is no tax incentive for trade in's and everyone seems to sell private to maximize sale.

So next time you go to buy a preowned car. Be armed with the info that even a $2K offer above what the dealership has offered might get you in the drivers seat. This equation has worked for me several times.
-- Also remember, this is a very good reason why not to buy a car, rather lease it. Because the chances of you getting the full value out of the sale are not great on a car worth near 6 figures. People don't like to put out that much cash when they can finance something new for a small down payment. And the financing deals on used cars is not as good as the financing deals on new cars.

-- The only reason I bought my Porsche, I hope to never have to sell it.
But if it's a daily driver car or if you only plan to keep for a few years, lease it. You save on tax, you don't get ripped on trade in.. And keep the mileage within reason.

Sorry for the rant, just my findings on this matter.
B

Agreed, past couple of times when I asked for trade-in values they went by this price guide called "Galves". Basically gives wholesale auction prices which are always lower than the consumer pricing guides.

Here's what they're going off of - Manheim auction values. I think they're being fair, as they don't want to pay more for a car than they would pay at auction, as with us buyers getting more educated, we usually try to purchase close to auction value.
