V1 Install

Has anybody hard wired their Valentine One to their 997 TT? I have done this on previous cars I have owned and am wondering if anybody can provide any guidance or instructions.

thanks.

My brother did it to his 996 and it looks reallly really nice. He had it done when they a company did his subs etc. But when my dad drives one of his porsches or his m5 on a trip, he un plugs the v1 radar and put it into one of his cars

When my tt comes in.....plan to hook it to the sunroof live wire. Should work. The other alternative is the cigarette lighter with the concealed V1 display at the cigarette lighter and a wire then running up to the sunvisor. Hopefully there is a lighter in the tt that is not live with ignition off If so I will try the sunroof switch. I am sure someone on this forum has hooked up a V1. With all this power and non-stealthness of the Porsche design/image, it would not be smart to be without one if one does any fast/furious driving at all.

I just did this using a write-up off of Rennlist. Wired in directly to the power lead on the auto-dim rearview mirror. Pull the reading light out (as shown in the owners' manual) and find the main bundle of wires heading to the mirror. The orange/black stripe wire is the hot wire, the dark brown wire is the ground wire. Just tap into these two and the V1 is good to go and only powers on when the ignition is on.

Great suggestion

I guess with the small light hookup, you have no place to put the small plug in adaptor that comes with the V1. I was hoping someone went into the sun roof panel where there is room for the adator at least on my M3. I will try your idea first..........thanks

I just did it on my car last night. E mail me and I could call you and walk you through it if you want. I wired it to the fuse box.

FYI...The beltronics and escort models seem to be outperforming the V1 in all around radar detector reviews.

Only in the bias radartest.com....this testor used to work for Escort or maybe still does. Way to much subjectiveness (bias) on his part..........Car and Driver Feb 02 was the last unbiased comparative testing and V1 won hands down. Probably time for an unbiased update. Have been looking. I know Bell is getting better and better. I had a 8500 and in no way it compares with V1 distance, curves, or hilltops. And the arrows are helpful if a copper sneaks up on your backside. Don't be fooled by Roadtest.com, try them both for yourself, they both give you a 30 day return policy if not satisfied. I sure wasn't with escort.

The Valentine One is still #1 according to the latest unbiased and independent radar detector test. In the test, 6-9 radar detectors were tested and only Valentine One is ranked in the top 3 in every test not Bel STi, not Bel RX65, not Escort 8500 X50, or any other radar detector.

Great documentation on current radar dectectors. Maybe this will curtail all the bragging going on with 8500 based on biased radartest.com data
