11.4 @ 124 on pump gas & stock tires

I'll keep this brief, as I just got back from the dragstrip. I took my Protomotive-tuned 997 6-speed to Sacramento Dragstrip this afternoon for some inaugural runs. The 'strip was unfortunately out of unleaded race gas (!!) so I made some passes on 94 octane unleaded which I had in the tank, and then a few low-boost passes on 91 octane just for comparison before heading home. I'm quite happy with the results, and am looking forward to running again in 2 weeks with 100 octane unleaded.

I have several videos of my passes, including one where I was lined up with a lightly-modded 2007 BMW M5 at http://www.treynor.com/Sacto-2Jun07.wmv

Car: 2007 997 Turbo 6-speed
Mods: Protomotive ECU & upgraded VTG turbos, EVO headers & stage II clutch, Miltek exhaust, HRE C21 wheels
Stock tires.
Fuel: 94 octane unleaded (1/3 100 octane Sunoco unleaded, 2/3 91 octane CA pump swill)
Temps: 85F

"sport mode": 11.4, 11.5, 11.5, 11.6 at 123 - 124 MPH
"non-sport mode": 11.9, 11.9 @ 120 MPH

very nice ben! what do the 60 times look like and how hard are you launching the all wheel drive system? any problems with wheel hop?

with the 100 octane and drag radials do you feel high tens are possible with current mods?

Since this was my first time on the 'strip with the 997 I experimented with launch technique a fair bit. Launching by dropping the clutch at 3500 RPM produced wheel hop and a 1.78 60' time - I only did that once Launching at 2500 with a very rapid clutch release produced no wheel hop and a 1.82 60', and that's the technique I settled on.

It's too early to say whether the car will run 10s - 124 MPH trap speed is a bit too slow to state that it's got 10s with confidence. My suspicion is yes, but I'll know more when I go back in 2 weeks and do some runs on 100 octane. I could feel the car holding back power on each run - the torque would *climb* noticeably (~10%) when the car reached 6000 RPM, which tells me that the ECU was retarting timing near peak torque. That doesn't happen with 100 octane. Similarly, it was 85F during my passes on 94, and it's noticeably faster when the temps drop to 50-60F.

I'm going to go encode that video now.

I know you have the software but are those the stock vtg turbo chargers? I didn't know you can upgrade the actual VTG's.

Awesome times. Probably need more trap speed to be in the 10s, but it looks like you are close.

My thoughts exactly. I know it'll be quicker with 100 octane and cooler temps -- I just don't know how much. The butt-o-meter says 128-130 mph trap speeds. With a little luck we'll find out in 2 weeks!

Protomotive can!

Very, very, nice runs!

I would like to see the guy in the M5 come back and try it again with the DSC off and S6 set, his hole shot was terrible. I'm sure you still have him but it would have at least been a more respectable showing......

What exactly does Promotive do with the stock VTG's?

great time slips! what kinds of 60ft times were you turning? I'm surprised you didnt get down to the low 11s and higher trap speed even without the 100 octane...
