Dealer overfills on oil change - Potential long term damage?

I brought my car in for an early oil change, 3,000 Km (old school) and the tech forgot to drain the crank and overfilled the engine. There was smoke everywhere by the time they figured it out and the result wa to redrain and refill both and an emberassed tech. The mechanic said there would be no long term effects is this true.
I have never seen this happen in my 20+ years of owning Porsches.

your mechanic should be more carefull with your car...
same thing happened to my dad old 996TT...and the car was smoking too!
I recomend you to go to your dealer and put the right oil level!

hope to help you...

Why so early or an oil change though?

Thats one reason why I do my own oil changes. (I don't trust anyone else to do it). Maybe thats overkill but oil changes have always been reserved for "me". I did a complete oil change at 1000 miles (breakin change) and I will probably do one every 4-5 thousand miles or once a year. Its really easy, didn't even need to jack-up the car. Be prepared though, as soon as you loosen and remove one of the 2 bolts (in the reserve tank) it comes out like Niagra Falls! Make sure your pan holds 12 quarts (9 actually drained out) and read the torque settings for the 2 drain bolts under the car, the oil filter assembly, and the 2 turbos (I did not drain the turbos as they hold little oil). In less than 1 hour your done.

I too believe that oil is the cheapest part of the motor and thus the oil change at 2000 mile break in point.

I think I learned not to assume just because they are dealer and it is a simple oil change that there is nothing to go wrong.

They paid for the oil change and made a record on the invoice.

There shouldn't be any longterm affects, but keep your nose sensitive because if you smell oil for a while, there may still be oil in places you don't want it. I've overfilled mine (common problem on early 911's especially oddball '72's) and haven't had any problems other than horrible looking smoke and smell.

I drove this car (LAT's) after oil overfill and it is perfect!!
He also had a Cargraphic (medium?) exhaust on it and it sounds
fantastic. Zero, I mean zero resonance and better power delivery.
His car did smoke upon start up, when he left my house.
