B&M short shifter installed in TT

Installed the B&M short shifter tonite in my TT. Very nice unit, with nice positive throws. The installation however is quite a bit different than the B&M posted instructions:

1)the shift boot levers out from the front and not the back as shown in the B&M diagrams. Lever out the boot itself and not the silver trim.
2)after levering out the boot, it is very unlikely you can get the shift **** off - it is very firmly pressed into place. I just left it on until the entire shifter was removed
3)after levering out the boot, there is a top piece of trim snapped into the top of the silver trim below. Yoh have to remove that first to get to the 4 torx screws holding in the silver trim piece around the shifter.
4)remove the 2 torx screws holding the storage cubby to the center console and then pull out the storage cubby below the PCM along with the switch panel for the spoiler, PASM, Sport buttons. They come out easiest together.
5)now to remove the rear console/tunnel you need to remove the 2 carpeted trim pieces in the footwell with a #30 torx. Then you can pop out the 2 leather side trim pieces on the sides of the PCM after removing the 2 #20 torx screws holding them in place. This exposes the front torx screw of the center console on each side.
6)everything else from there follows the B&M instructions.

How do you like it so far? Short, notchy? What have you had before to compare it too? Any added noise or is there an stock boot that still covers it?

It is excellent. Great positive feel. Was a little notchy when cold at first, now not at all. No extra noise, and looks stock with stock boot. It is the same unit Porsche sells thru Tequipment. for $800 or so. I have put short shifters on all of my manual cars - M3, 944 turbo. Feels identical to my 997GT3 shifter

I don't mind going that route if you can't hear it. I love the notchiness of the Hurst, installed them myself in both Vette's. Only took about 45 minutes and 2 beers.

When you take out the stock one is there a rubber cap/grommet/boot that covers it? Does it fit over the B&M properly?

Unlike other cars, there is no direct linkage thru a hole in the tranny tunnel - it is a cable linkage. There will never be any added noise. The B&M replaces the shift lever in the stock mechanism which resides completely inside the console in the cabin. About a 90 minute job.

So does it still have a nubby on the bottom of the shifter base itself? Or does the cable some how connect differently?

There is a nub on the bottom just like stock. The lever just has a different fulcrum point. Definitely not $800 worth of stuff

FWIW my salesman told me the optional sport shifter for the TT is the same one installed in the 997 GT3 as standard.
