Horsepower upgrade is always good. What's the point of 20" wheels? It's going to take away the advantage of the horsepower gain. They should add a lightweight 18" wheel option instead.

Wouldnt 18's look small especially to those who get automatic transmition 911's that cannot select the 20mm lowering springs available as an option; I am not sure whether you can get it in the U.S or not but its available as a ROW.

Yes the 18" wheels will look small. But it will function better. I have seen 997, 997S or even 997TT tracking with 18" and their feedbacks are positive. I personally will mount a set of light wheel 18" for my 997S next track season. I feel that 19" or bigger wheels on a 997 is for look only but nothing more.

BTW even 996TT or GT2 come standard with 18" wheels and they are about the same car size as our 997 and more powerful.

I would doubt Porsche will give the new 997S the same HP as X-51 as that would truly **** off their customers that laid out serious $$$ for that option. I would say about 368-370 is about right for the new DFI engine and it will still be a bit less that the X cars while also offering a nice but subtle power increase that Porsche is known for. I do agree that the DFI cars will be here by May 2008.

So how bad will the resale of the current 997 Carrera S be affected?

The 997 wheels arches/openings are bigger than the 996s therefore 18" wheels appear smaller on the 997. 19's are definately the way to go for street use and 18's for track use.

By approx the same pecentage 996's were when their mid cycle face lift occured for the 2002 MY...Protecting resale values of current 997's is yet another reason Porsche won't make the HP jump too significant.
