How Expensive is it?
How Expensive is it?
Hi Guys,
Hope your all doing great,
Anyways just wanted to get something clear with actual Porsche owners,
As you know, I ordered my 08 C4S, and when people hear I bought that kind of car they freak out and start telling me that
oil changes are extremely expensive such as $300.00 at a time and general maintenance is very expensive that makes people wonder if it's worth keeping the car.
Now I know that these people that commented and complained drove 30,000$ cars, so they are not on the same page.
But seriously is it that expensive, or are they just simply jealous and not well informed.
I know what I'am getting myself into with this car, but from what I hear it's worth the sacrifice and money for the pleasure Porsche gives us.
I would just like some opinions and comments from more experienced Porsche owners, which is you guys. I don't want opinions or comments from the salesperson who tries to shine the sale even better.
Thanks

I just had my first service (I'm second owner 12 K mi) $700.oo all service ,oil and brake flush ,hell my son's Honda SI 30 K service was $450.00. It appears the it's quite easy to change the oil yourself but I don't drive that much so I'm probabliy looking at once a year , good way to get under the hood, major service on any car these day's is high since service intervals are longer dealer need to get all they can each trip.
A brand new 997 is an expensive car. As such, parts for said car are going to be more expensive than they would for a much more mass market $30,000 Toyota or Honda.
Labor rates vary by region and by your decision to use the dealer or an independent shop.
So I can't tell you with any certainty how much you should expect to pay for an oil change because there are too many variables in that equation.
But it's going to be more than said avg. family sedan. You should also keep in mind that the Porsche has a dry sump motor, Porsche recommends you only use synthetic oil, and so you're going to be using more oil than you would in an avg. car and each unit of oil is going to cost more than "standard" dyno oil.
So yes... servicing a Porsche will be more expensive. However, everything is relative and for the most part a well maintained, newer P-car is cheap to maintain relative to a newer, well maintained Aston Martin, Ferrari or Lamborghini.

I don't drive a lot of miles each year, 5000 at most and I have been told by my shop to change the oil once a year. I am told that the 997 is the easiest car that Porsche has made to maintain. Change the plugs, oil filter, air filter, and fluids, the car will adjust to everything else. I wouldn't worry about the cost of tune ups and oil changes, it is electronic sensor that might break that will cost the big dollars. Enjoy the car.
I am going to have my first service in 2 years. Even though it is higher than others, this is the FIRST time in 2 years. It does add up if you have to the car service every 3 months with a toyota or honda right?
911Rocks,
first of all, C-O-N-G-R-A-T-S!!!!!
The car is very nice and you will enjoy it.
I think prices of all things are on the rise, these days getting an oil change in a bmw is like 70$. So for a Porsche I rather pay a bit more. Also, for oil changes you do not need to go to the dealer. 1) you can do it yourelf or 2) get an independent porsche dealer to do it. Coming from M3 to Cayenne S i was shocked to find out 300$ for oil change, but I found a local shop that did it for 75$ and learned only to take the thieves for warranty work and things that a reputable independent shop couldn't do. But if they are ASE certified and they have life, chaning oil is no biggie.
Good luck and don't worry so much. Plus it's a new car, you will not have a lot of expense like tires, belts for a while. The first 3 yeas of ownership cost should not be much more.

What others have said is correct, Basically you have nothing to worry about. The car is new so general maintinance will be at a minimum. Oil changes can be done yourself or are around 100 dollars at an indy shop. The new 911's really are great cars to own and you simply have no reason to be concerned- If you can afford the new car, you can afford the scheduled service when it is time. And in all honesty, Parts aren't even as much as many lower-cost cars... VW parts are terribly expensive for example.
Rest easy and enjoy your new car. Congradulations.

It's not "free service" like a BMW but it really is not bad at all . Your largest expense is rear tires and oil service is not too frequent . I spend about 1500 bucks a year to drive my Turbo (if even that --because I don't drive it too much) .
Advice -- The next time someone casts judgement on how much you spend to drive one of the best cars in the world keep this in mind , he does not pay your bills nor live your life and ask yourself if you really think his words are out of sincerity , concern or envy .
Not everyone will be happy for you when they see your 100+K car and sometimes they make it very clear.
Enjoy your car and whatever you pay to keep it running beautifully is just the price of the toy.

Well if you have to ask...then you can't afford it. Seriously, I think the dealership prices for routine service borders on criminal case. $300 oil job.... and there are people who imply that its ok....get serious. Either take it to the local guy...call first or DIY..simply to do and something you can do if you have a young son/daughter.

Servicing requirements are, for the most part, reasonable. Once a year or every 5K to 8K miles, an oil change for $300 at the dealer or $100 to $150 at a shop. Brake fluid flush every 2 years, probably $250. Brake pads, when needed, maybe $300 per end.
The only expensive item is tires. Figure rears at 10K to 12K miles(maybe a little more) for $900 to $1200 and fronts at 20K to 25K miles for $600 to $800.

Chance is that people are just teasing you about the oil change cost. Most of the time people tease because they are envious. They think they can feel better if they make someone else feel bad.
You just bought a brand new Porsche 911 (997C4S). Just enjoy driving it
