This seems to confirm consistent gains

Referencing the RSS dyno, they seems to confirm consistent gains between 3.6l and 3.8l motors. I doubt the exhaust is much of a factor.

Thanks for posting and working to clear-up any doubt.

If you're in the Southern California area we will even back up the plenum satisfaction with free install and removal at our facility, Stuttgart Performance.

We sell the plenum to Porsche dealerships and even a good number of plenums back to the motherland in Deutchland. The IPD plenum is the absolute single best performance mod you can possibly install on any late model Porsche, Period!

Thanks to everyone for all the continued support and promotion of the IPD plenums.

I know this is the 997 section but the 3.6 liter motors are essentially the same.

Can I purchase one for the holiday special price? I know xmas is long gone...but hey easter is almost here...

Well there is always a plus and neg to any modification, i guess it all depends on the individual whos spending the $. I just test drove my friends 997s so i never spent the $ but i didnt think that "increase in power was worth it to me" ill save my money and just be thankful i am driving the car i am.

Is it just me or is this the most basic, fundamental principle? How easy would it be for all the people who argue that it "feels" faster to prove it with empirical evidence. Better yet, why not the manufacturer.

Furthermore, I'd like to point out that all companies who claim certain performance increases WITHOUT contemplating other factors, i.e., mods like exhaust, are purely skewing the results. Life is not a vacuum nor should this be. There has to be one guy out there who has evidence of each one of the dozen mods and what each one adds. I doubt if you did every single mod out there, with the exception of a super charger, you're lucky to get 400hp on a non-aspirated Carrera S. Law of diminishing returns, but of course no manufacturer states that.

Shocker.
+1!!!

I totally undertand how this mod could improve performance and if it was a few hundred dollars I would check it out and install it. However a $1000 just does not seem worth it to me at this point.
I did a simular mod to a '87 and '92 Vette. The claim was 11-14hp and the cost was something around or under $100. Ecklers and Mid-America catalogs sold this plenum air foil. I could not feel a difference with this mod but I knew it would take around 25hp to feel a difference anyway but again it was under $100 for the cast piece of metal.

You make a very good point here and it is pretty much imho a bad part of the industry. As someone that owns a more expensive or "prestigious" car, the manufacturers always charge you extra for any part. A part for a 911 or M3 always costs so much more than a similar part for a japanese or esp domestic car. They will try and justify it by attributing it to R&D time, but gimme a break. I doubt the R&D for an intake (or plenum) for a 911 is much more involving than a cold air intake for a civic. In the end they are pretty much both plastic or metal tubes with bends and a filter on the end. Civic price $175, 911 price $500. Anyway end of rant...its the price we pay for owning the cars we have.

Thanks RSS for your repost. You are preaching to the deaf. Most of the guys left on this thread already know all the answers. Maybe one of the others will do a dyno. If so I hope they do it for themselves, not because of the pressures here. I would have to remove the headers at this point and start over. Then some would claim foul because of the day of the week the run is made. I do understand where the objectivists are coming from. Btw, roll on will not work unless you have done a pre install "test". That would be cool. I may come back to this because I am not real happy w the way the headers added after the plenum seem to have jerked the power curve around. If so, I will do it differently. I truly am confident with the plenum mod. Cheers Gerry

Get with it, that's why modding is a hobby. Success and Failure is a part of the game.

I didn't spend 150k on my car so not everyone bought their Porsche with money gushing out of their wallets. I got a good deal on my car so i bought it. About the plenum deal I'm satisfy with the way it drives so i won't be dynoing. It's all a matter of if you're satisfy with what you spend who cares what others think.

(i am not real happy w the way the headers added after the plenum seem to have jerked the power curve around.) so the plenum lost low and added mid? or what?

The car felt stronger with plenum right from off idle to redline. No problem. I then added ebay headers as a cheap experiment. The power curve seemed to shift up with a loss on the bottom end and I can't tell whether there is a true gain on top or not. For that I would have to dyno the car. This is not a problem with the plenum. I am not so sure whether the ebay headers are an improvement or not. I have been told I need to flash now to regain all of the bottom end but I am reluctant to risk it. Let me be clear: the plenum is an improvement throughout the power band. It does not "feel stronger on top because it lost bottom end". That may be true for the headers though. Sorry if I confused the issues. Note this is using stock, non PSE, cans if that matters. Gerry

+1 regarding headers. I had a pair of Fabspeed headers on my 997S (together with AWE cats and the stock mufflers) and it never felt quite right. Reverting to the stock headers was a revelation! The loss of top end is barely noticeable compared to the Fabs but the increase in low- and mid-range torque was startling. Didn't realise just how much had been taken away. The car is a much nicer drive on the stock parts.

The AWE cats do add noticeable extra 'go' right through the rev range however, with no apparent losses anywhere. Reverting to the stock cats makes the car feel noticeably slower (in direct contrast to the headers). The AWEs are now a permanent fixture!

I'm going to try a pair of X-51 headers next and a plenum. Be interesting to see what results I get.

Ian

What I wish would happen is that some of these Porsche magazine get it together and test some of these parts. Wouldn't be nice if Excellence put together a 3 part article on 997S engine mods and provide dyno and track results for each mod? This way we could see what headers do to the power curve and see how the plenum affect power and what mods work together as a package and what mods do not work together. Vette magazines do this all the time!

If you could post or pm results with x51 headers I would appreciate it. As was pointed out to me, x51 has a different flash than CS Gerry
