Finally drove a 997
And I have to say I'm impressed. We bought a Carrera S for my wife and it drives like a .... 911! I am really pleased with the car. I am someone who had a bit of Porsche experience and pretty much bailed on the brand when the 996's and SUV's came out. Even though I have a 996tt I own it because of the $/performance ratio, not because I love it. I can see the 997's being cars I could really like. Anyway I'm pretty excited and just wanted to share!

The interior is very different from the 996.
My brother had an '02 C2 and the 997 C2S just pwns it in terms of acceleration.
I suppose non-Porsche freaks wouldn't really see too much difference but the 993ish cues of the 997 like the wider hips and the headlights really do it for me.

I just got my 997 Carrera 2 last week.I have been enjoying it since.I have tested 996 b4 my purchase and i feel the 997 is lighter, more torque and quicker thou i was told it has same engine.997 just moves off the effortlessly at any gear and power is on tap anytime.Of cos the interior of 997 is incomparable to one in the 996.The 997's interior is more updated and the sitting position is much better than 996.I reckon that u one has owned a 997,he will not go back to 996 if he has a choice.
I was a 993 guy as well, but made the leap and never regretted it. The 996 just never did anything for me.... now a 6GT3, that's a different deal!!
Actually, it really doesn't drive much like a 911 at all. It's much more secure in the corners than anything Porsche designed in the past. You'll be able to drive like Danny Sullivan in about a week.
I'm not saying it's not modern. I understand that if you want a SWB feel you have to go a long way back, if you want a 964, not quite as far back. But I'll never forget the first time I drove a 996. The sales rep asked what I thought and my answer was, "That's the nicest sports car Lexus has ever made." The 997 seems to have more mechanical feel than the 996, which is what I was missing.
