Lifting of Techart Sideskirts

Ok, I live in south Florida and my techart sideskirts started seperating on the top from my 997 leaving a gap. After removing the sideskirt, I spent about 5 hours methodically cleaning off the old mounting resadue but I need a recommedation on what to use to reattach them to the car. They are held with 1 screw on each side and 5 screws on the bottom., but is is the top that has been seperating. 3m double sided tape is not strong enough to seel them.

Any recommendations for an adhesive?

Are you using the 3M body molding tape with the red peal off backing? If so, i guess you'll have to look for further suggestions. I would suggest looking for a supplier for body shops in your area in the business directory. I know they have other types of molding tape with stronger adhesive that a normal parts store doesnt carry.

Yes it was the 3m body molding tape with red peal off backing. It realy does not seel that great. I need some type of adhesive. I will be meeting with some local body shops next week but it would be nice to make it a DIY project since I removed and cleaned off the skirts.

sharky had pics of the proper way to do this, you must use an adhesive and proper clamps to keep the skirts in place while the glue cures...

The tape not sealing is most likely due to inproper surface prep before installing the part. 3M tape will not adhere if not cleaned properly before adhesion.

For the safest results we would recommend using an expoxy based glue such as Wurth or Beta Link to make the attachment more secure and permenant.

There are several distributors that sell this to the trade as they are imported from Germany but we do not know any retail estabilishments that offer this on a consumer level. You can ask for something similar to your local install shops if they have it available.

We do carry this adhesive for our own parts and we would be happy to send you this for you if your prefer.

Please contact our sales department at 800-601-7615 ext 2 and we will send out this to you.

Regards,

I have had this problem for years.Try a company named "Fusor".They may have a fix for you.I know some of their stuff bonds permanetely but they may make something that will work and I know would be readily available.

Our Type II Front Bumper Conversion for the 997 Carrera will be in production in 3 weeks. We have already accumulated a list of customers that have been allocated early production units on our current reservation list.

The V-RT 997 Turbo version and full aero package will be released in June/July. The list for this has not yet been opened up as development is not yet complete.

I have a neighbor with the TA skirts and noticed the tape and the separating right away. Didn't want to say anything and hurt his feelings.

Imo the skirts are not really needed. I think the front TA piece is nice but the skirts are too much. Just my opinion and no offense meant.
