How much are mods worth when buying a car?

I'm in the market for a 977 S and found some on the internet; however, in some cases there seem to be a big price discripency between stock and mod cars. If someone spent say $10k on mods, how much value should one add above the going market rate for a stock car?

I've never sold or purchased a car with mods so not sure how to value it. Any insite is greatly appreciated.

Also, if anyone or anyone you know is selling a 2006 C2S, speed yellow, please let me know. I'd like one with an aero kit, but not a must as I can alway add it on myself. Would like to buy from a private seller unless a smoking deal from a dealer b/c in Nevada, we don't have to pay sales tax when purchasing a used car from a private seller.

Thanks in advance.

15-25% of msrp I think anything in that range is what you would see from a dealer.

it depends on the mods and how much the buyer is willing to pay. I would pay more for a car with mods that I would add to my car, but if it were something that I wouldn't change then I wouldn't add any value IMO.

Mods can increase a car's value while others will shy away . I would have to understand what mods as well as the car's history to decide . I'd rather have a stock car driven and pampered by doctor than heavily modded car capriciously driven on the street or track by a playboy . No wonder i have such a hard time selling my cars --lol . Just kidding.

In all seriousness I asked this question to a several used car sales folks over the years --the general answer is 15% of the actual cost of the part plus install . So if someone mods 10K worth add 1500 bucks to what a stock car ought to cost.

15%-25%? Wow, that seems a lot less than I would have thought. I think the sellers value the mods a lot more than buy, more like 50%.

I would add most of the mods on the car myself so absolute dollar wise I'm saving a lot of $$. So I wouldn't mine paying a little more, but not a lot more.

I would ( as an owner) but the used car lots don't . My feeling goes like this when one day I sell my car (with approx 60K in mods) if I ever sell it (I plan on keeping it a long time) --I would let the person drive my car and then go out and drive a stock 997tt . If he buys the stock car i would wish him well with the amount of time he would have to go through to create a car like mine. If his wheels took five weeks or his car took a few days here or there for installation as he paid the FULL price to mod it then I would wish him well.

In essence the person who makes out the best is the one who only likes a stock car . However when a person who mods OR a buyer who wants to mod a car table a purchase or sale --that 15 percent Vs 50 percent really boils down to how they both feel about that car .

primary mod is a F77 package and RG5, RG19 champion wheels and aero package.

yrralis1: I read that you had the F77 in you previous car. Did you like it? Did it add noticeble HP? Sound too loud inside of the car to be a daily driver?

I loved my F77 . I had the full setup . I prefer the rasp like sound of the Tubi and liked that the cabin sound was pleasant. The ecu flash gave a nice midrange .

15% may be optimistic. It depends. Some aftermarket modifications may make the car hard to sell or trade in.

I always prefer a low-mileage unmodified pcar. There's just too many unknowns with a modified car unless you know the car, the shop that installed the mods and the person who owned it. For example, there was a sweet 997 listed on ebay with SC, but no one bid on it. There was also a nice 06 S cab with 20" wheels, lowered, low-miles, 1-owner, etc- and the seller couldn't get $65k for it.

What is the F77 package? That is new to me-

It's been my experience from selling other cars, that you don't get much from most mods. This is usually why you see sellers parting their cars out back to stock and then selling the mods separately. Certain mods, like wheels, seem to be worth more to buyers. I guess the biggest rule here is value is in the eye of the buyer.

On a side note, I'm selling my 2006 997 S with factory aerokit cup, but it's Guards Red. It does have every posible options that someone would want and the car looks great. It's also CPO so the warranty is good until 2012! Also, by coincidence, I'm located in Las Vegas as well! Let me know if you're interested. I have the car listed in the classified section of 6speedonline.com. Thanks!

The F77 is the name of the airbox and the engine gets ECU flashed with Tubi exhaust .

Here's the link which had me glued to it for days when pondering what mods to get. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMWLpdVrhWU

Like said before, depends on the crowd you are catering to... could even decrease the value of the car.
