PDk with Chrono?

Ok, I'm

Read a lot of posts/threads on here. Also looked at various dealer sites.

1) One consensus is that a lot of you are recommending it with the PDK.
2) Mix with dealer stock is about <40% have the combo based on their website listings.

A) Car will be a DD.
B) Don't really plan on tracking/SCCA on a regular basis.

Questions?

Why the push and/or hard sell? P-car options are considered above norm $wise with very limited return.

OK good question and I hope I can solve it for you. I own a 09S with PDK with the Sport Chrono Plus. I am the type of person that wants the sporty racey type of stuff.

So, What you get with the Sport Chrono Plus is when in the Plus mode the transmission either automatically or manually will shift harder and much faster.

Also with Sport Chrono you get some memory functions like memory seats and so forth. I have manual seats so that was not important to me but I wanted the fastest shifting PDK...so the "sport chrono plus" option was important.

that is it....best of luck!

mdrums: Someone in another forum reports that when he pushes the Sport button as the car is near to a full stop the engine stalls. Have you tried this?

Mine doesn't do this, not even in Sport+. Sometimes it does feel like the engine might stall but it never has, still if I had a manual I'd be stomping on the clutch (heh).

One other thing, you need Sport Chrono to get launch control. Personally I think it's silly and borderline insane to get PDK without sport chrono if you're an enthusiast. You're looking at like 0.4 seconds off the 0-60 time for under $1000.

Are you satisfied with PDK over manual? Is it as much fun to drive?

For driving around town, no it is not as much fun to drive. Shifting with your hand between the gates and using a clutch pedal is more involving.

The acceleration you get with it is very impressive and it's more relaxing.

When I ordered the car I figured I wanted raw performance so that's why I got it but in actuality for most of the driving I do in town it would probably have been more fun to have stick (I don't get caught in traffic much).

I may change my mind when I really get to wring the car out. You can still shift with the paddles and such which is OK and gives you some of the manual feel but the main thing I miss is the clutch pedal.

Thanks... I felt the same way about BMW SMG. It is not as good as DSG but I often didn't like playing with the paddles.... The auto mode in SMG was not usable at all.... Hopefully, I will like to DSG. I test drove it and wow.... It is like an auto...... The cabrio (DSG) did shudder a little when taking off from a dead stop.....

I got my C2S PDK with sport chrono and dont regret it one bit! I would recommend getting it just for the Launch Control feature. Its under $1000 i believe but i am the type of driver that pushes his cars to the limit and sport chrono+ is def a must option for me.

Put simply this is what I say to my customers....

Whether you want your grandmother to be totally comfortable driving your 911 or you want to exclusively take it ot the track the PDK does both SO MUCH BETTER than a stick its not even funny.

I hate to say it but PDK is the future. I hated the idea until I drove one. Im over having a stick. PDK all the way its just so much faster and easier.

NO SMG, No TIPTRONIC, PDK must be driven! With sport chrono preferably!

Yes I have and put quite simply besides for a new S I have not felt such acceleration in any car as I did using the launch control on the base carrera with PDK. The difference is the instant acceleration. A Turbo is faster but off the line it dosent feel faster at all.

FUN FUN FUN

People compare roller coasters to cars this actually feels like it in launch control!

The conclusion I have reached is that I am happy with the PDK on my 911 but I'd also like to have a Porsche with a traditional manual. Savings program for Cayenne/?? initiated.

The question is which makes you happier? PDK is more efficient, but so is a microwave over cooking in a pan. The point is which gives you most pleasure? Which makes you happier?

The PDK cars I have driven gave me no pleasure at all. I was SO glad to get back into my car with stick shift and change my own gears rather than have the car do it for me.

If you prefer driving an automatic with paddle shifters doing all the work for you, then buy a car with PDK. But if you still like the interaction with the car and mastering shifting yourself them buy a car with a stick shift.

Thankfully Porsche still offers a choice.
