Paint to Sample

I am thinking of ordering a car paint to sample. Is it worth the wait? Good or Bad idea? Just wanted to get peoples opinions.

Isn't the resale value gonna be more affected, if you do decide to later sell, since the chosen paint-to-sample color may not have mass market appeal?

I don't understand the question. Only you would know if it is worth the wait. Color could affect re-sale either way, depending on how it is viewed by others.

If you can afford it, I would say do it. But I would also recommend staying with a "Porsche" color (i.e., a color historically used by Porsche even if it is no longer being used now).

I personally love RIVIERA BLUE but that may be only me.

If I could, I would do it. Have always liked the more "wild colors" of the 60s and 70s. Riv Blue and Turq. blue have been favs. Resell market may be smaller - but so is supply.

If you really plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time and are particular about its looks, paint to sample is great. I'm hoping to some day do the California Orange for a turbo model.

What do you think?

I've only done it this once and it is absolutely worth it especially if you're thinking of keeping the car but even if you're not. What could be better than looking at a special color that you love that you don't see on every other car that drives by. It's a bargain at the price Porsche does it for.

But be ready to wait because depending on what color you pick you might have a long one!

It took me 8 grueling months after I placed my original PTS order for a Champagne Yellow Posche C4S Cab and after Porsche denied that color and the replacement they suggested Jonquil Yellow , I finally picked a color they could do.

After my first two colors were a no-go I started looking for another PTS on the internet and low and behold I came across another TB car on the internet. I e-mailed the guy and we traded a few e-mails and I ordered the color.

You just have to understand that just because it's an old Porsche color doesn't mean you can get it. They have some problems reproducing old non-metallic light colors like my Champagne yellow. And they can sometimes take a while to tell you that a color doesn't work.

That being said NOTHING in the world can replace the feeling of absolute joy you get when you see your color on that beautiful car.

As far as resale goes I wouldn't worry about it because I see it as an advantage. Someone else is going to feel the same way you did when you ordered it and love the exclusivity of the color as well! People stop me all the time, even drive up just to tell me they love the color...I had a cop do that just last week.

Life is short and who gives a sh*t about the dopey resale. Have some fun and get that color you love.....there is truly nothing like it!

Good Luck!

Tom

Isn't there a risk that one day you need body work and then you're at Porsche's mercy to get you that rare matching paint?

Please explain. You mean the Porsche factory in Germany keeps an extra supply of your custom paint in storage in case you need it one day? Or they keep the formula and mix you a fresh batch if/when you need it? Who know how long that takes to get to the dealer...

Also in my experience, none of the dealers do their own body work -- they ship it out and happily take the markup, so you'd be paying that extra too if you ever needed body work.

There's 5 million places where I can get Porsche touch-up paint in any color I want...even colors that Porsche doesn't or can't paint any more....so you're seriously worried where the paint will come from???

I guess it's good you don't have to worry about that isn't it?
