clutch problem
clutch problem
An interesting thing happened to the clutch yesterday morning, that subsequently resolved, but am concerned, should this happen on the track. When I got in the car and started going, I noticed that the clutch had some play in it, aproximately 3-5 incheches of play before the I could feel the clutch engage, then when taking pressure off the clutch it felt like a two stage release, half way on release, it all of a sudden got easier. It didn't seem that the clutch was engaging at the usual level. Well my first concern was that this may mean the clutch was wearing out, but how could this happen from the car sitting overnight?
This was strange because I have only 14+k miles on the car and have had cars with well over 25+k miles with not clutch problems. This lasted most of that day, then just as it started it was gone, the release and engage level were as before. How can this happen? Any assistance would be appreciated, it's the wknd and the service dept is closed. Thanks all.

A slipping clutch usually marks the beginning of its end . Lets hope its just a little glitch and nothing more but if it continues then its time to replace.
14K miles is not a lot but with mods and some track driving it kinda speeds the aging process .

I just blew out my clutch at 33k miles.
Had it replaced with the SachsStage2 race clutch, hi-performance pressure plate, and AWE Lightweight Flywheel.
Highly recommend you do the same. There's a thread about it on here with details.

Here is the detailed thread:

I suggest moving over there.
Basically, it was $3k for the AWE LWFW, SachsStage2 race clutch, hi-performance pressure plate, throw-out bearing, bolts, and labor. Bought the parts from AWE, and had my Porsche dealer do the install.
Totally worth it, best mod for performance I've done so far.

Well took car into champion today, they think it's the hydrolics, maybe, but it doesn't appear to be wearing of the clutch, we'll see when they get back to me..When the clutch does go, I plan on not only the LWFW and race clutch but also the LSD.
Great news that a new clutch isnt needed . I like the stock clutch Baby . I have a stage 3 on my car and the method of engagement changes making a launch a bit tricky . The stock 997S clutch is my favorite of all the 997 model line .
Advice -- drive an upgrade clutch before you do it . See if it's for you .

I was told that the above setup is great, but there significant issues with clutch chatter, this is also my daily driver..

I can't tell you what to do, but the Stage2 is better than OEM for several reasons. Just one of which is that it's much more durable than OEM, so for the same price, it'll last longer. But that's just one reason.
In terms of chatter, the LWFW does add some sound, but it's a nice sound, to my ears. It sounds serious.
