Badge removal

I have removed badges from other cars before but never a pcar. Is it just the same? heat them up with a dryer and then use dental floss and they peel right off?

I was at a detail shop yesterday and they said that if you take them off there will be a depression? is this so?

thats the same with me, but they told me there would be a depression. Have you ever taken a badge off of a porsche, or just other cars?

There is no depression under the carrera badge - lots of people have removed theirs (to replace it with a classic "911" or just leave it clean). It is also a factory option to delete the badge. Heat and dental floss is the way to go. Make sure any goo-gone type of stuff is safe for the paint.

There is no indentation, the badge is just stuck on the surface. The hood badge, is of course - bolted on.

easy to do, just need some patience. Let it heat up in the sun, rem0ve with floss, move car to shade and cool paint with some water. I used bug / tar remover after the dental floss to get the residue off, then hit the area with some 3M fine cut polish to remove any outlines. If your pcar has some light surface scratches from washing, you'll see a faint outline where the badge was. comes off easy with the 3M.

Result after replacing with "911" badge (painted custom titanium metallic):

On my past 996 (gone but not forgotten!)

As others stated - no depression. Sometimes you might see a "shadow" or an outline of the removed badge. I ususally go over the area with a clay bar and then detail it with a good polish.

Actually, the only "depression" you might experience is from not putting the new badge on straight.. ::

you can order from dealer (sunsetporsche.com in oregon can get them), they come in black plastic or chrome. Chrome is expensive, black plastic is cheap.

Or, you can buy from Eric at www.bumperplugs.com. Eric can custom-paint the badge for you and his price is very reasonable. You can DIY paint it with a can of bumper paint and adhesion promotor, but for the time + effort spent it is actually better to buy one from Eric (I know, I have painted two of them myself- if you want it to come out perfect and not peel later the process is very time consuming).
